what are the future of relics?

relics clearly didn't make the splash kabam wanted and it was probably tough to create and balance them, among other things, but what do you think they will look like when they come back? to me, the big pause implies they're making a big pivot, but to what?

my feedback on relics:

-very fun to play with, very useful, changed the game forever. keep them in the game, they're good.

-hate the monetization because it introduced another ecosystem of spending that is layered on top of what we already have. shards, catalysts, awakening gems, sigs...

-very expensive for what they offer, which is basically combo extension, and the offers that popped up were really off-putting. a lot of spending for minimal gain...and i hope they're kept that way and not made more necessary.

creating relics is probably very costly so as with anything they need to make money off of them, but how? relics already come out of gate with most of their value intact, so spending on them is a tough ask.

    I think they were good I just hate the ranking/levelling system.
    We really didn't need another set of Cats/ISO, just added too much complexity.

    They look dead in the water thou.

    I think relics are fine, and even though I personally don't enjoy using them, they add a great new layer to progression in the game. However, I don't appreciate the fact that Kabam seems to be forcing the relics onto us, such as in side quests nodes or in act 8.3.

    I feel like we need a few more relics with very generalised benefits per class to yk to atleast get to a level where every ( or most) champs can benefit from something atleast.

    At present plenty of champs donot have anything going for them when you put a relic on except for the obvious combo extender.

    I think a release schedule of 3-5 months should be fine to keep them relevant with the champs and metas

    Definitely need new relic champs.
    There are only 4 champs in each class 😂😂😂

    Science: Ant-Man, Spidey 2099, Capt. America, Hulk

    Skill: Black Panther, Black Widow, Valk, Winter Soldier.

    Mutant: Storm, Gambit, Sinister, Wolvie

    Tech: HB, Viz, Sentinel, G.Goblin

    Cosmic: Thor, Gamora, Venom, Ms. Marvel

    Mystic: Scarlet Witch, Iron Fist, Juggs, Ghost Rider.

    And some of them don't partner well with a lot of champs, especially the new ones. The ones they are designed for, are trash champs, champs you don't have, or champs you don't want to rank, so you don't get the full benefit of the relic other than it being a combo extender. You have no choice but to bind them to one they don't partner well with, because the quest node requires a relic.

    I think they mentioned that they are taking another look at relics and might end up reworking them.

    I wouldn't mind new relics it'll make it simpler to add relics on more variety of champs

    When you look at it, current relics cover most of the class specificity. There's not much more a new relic can add. Without doubling up on something.
    Not sure how they'll get out of this

    That's exactly what I mean. That's 6 new relics. Then what next ?
    I'm sure they're trying to find a way forward

    just speculating but i think they're really scared of opening up a can of worms by creating future broken interactions so they undertune all relics, unless of course they introduce the buff/nerf program to relics but that just takes away resources from real champs because i think the designers are same.

    a relic that would counter purify for mutants would affect kits and the champ design process so they'd stay away from something like that so i think we're stuck with minor improvements overall and nothing groundbreaking.

    not sure where they can take relics without forcing it and risking backlash. kabam if you're reading, relics are great but i don't see any room for heavy monetization like you were doing.

    I wasn't a big fan of relics initially, introducing new resources, rank up system, looked complicated etc.

    But at this point i couldn't imagine the game without them. Sure the biggest impact is the striker with combo extension, it opens some new ways of playing and saved me countless times.
    But the impact of the relics itself with the rune stones and also awakening benefits seems a bit underwhelming in some cases and could definitely use a closer look. For example it seems a bit odd that cosmic class has the relic improving bleeds with only a couple of benefiting champs and the skill class doesn't.

    I think a good way to tweak the relics is by changing some of the rune stones so you can adjust better to th champ. If winter soldier relic could use different runes to improve either incinerate, bleed, shock, rupture or whatever you could benefit way more champs in the skill class for example

    They haven't been silent. They said they're working on new relics and trying to make each one a little more distinct but will only announce them when they're ready

    I've come to appreciate relics, but only certain ones. The Venom Relic everyone knows how much it improves him, and the Hulkbuster relic doubles the damage of Guardians SP2. The issue is too many only provide the slightest of boosts.

    I recall when Kabam released relics they said the first relics are Battlecast. So what we have right now are relics that are Battlecast. There could be other types of relics coming. It took what 2 years to release Battlecasts? Maybe we get a new type of relic in another 6 months. Would be interesting if different types of relics could combine together too.

    I like relics. Reminiscent of Capcom fighting games where you could bring in a special assist character.
