Infinite power interaction with Count Nefaria

So, I just found a fun interaction, which I think is a bug with Count Nefaria's "Ionic overcharge" ability to gain power when it's denied to his opponent.

If it's not a bug, then it's one heck of an ability...

I just took Attuma through the Paragon Gauntlet because he's great for Red Skull, and I assumed that he'd be great for Nefaria, too, since Attuma goes Unstoppable and gains Power when the opponent Evades. Nefaria has an Evade-when-stunned node, and no other particularly significant nodes.

Since punishing Evades with Unstoppable is literally called out in Nefaria's "weaknesses" section, on his champion page, I thought it would be an easy, effective strategy.

Here's how it went:

That's a 7r3 Attuma though; so he took the SP3 on the chin, and still got the solo 😉

Then I ran through the Gauntlet again, to see if I could recreate the effect with with video capture. Which I clearly could, or I wouldn't be writing this!

So, there's obviously some kind of interaction between Attuma's ability to gain Power, and Nefaria's responses to champions who do that.

Attuma's ability reads like this:

Clearly Attuma goes Unstoppable, and gains Power twice, because the callout says he does. That's two lots of 10% Max Power, or two lots of 30% of a bar. So, you trigger Nefaria's Sig ability twice, right?

Nefaria gains 100 Ionic charges, and enters Ionic overcharge.

He also - and I don't really understand why - instantly gains three bars of power...

That's not normal, right?

Attuma only triggers the ability twice, so even if Nefaria took all that power, which he can't, it would only be 20% of Max Power. Not three bars.

I'm wondering if it's a weird interaction between Nefaria's Overcharge ability to "gain the Power denied" to his opponents, and Attuma's unique "multi-trigger" ability?
There's no upper limit on Attuma's multi-trigger ability, and I guess Nefaria's ability could detect infinite failures to gain power, and give Nefaria the power 'denied' to Attuma...?

Anyone have any other explanation?

A little trivia : attuma have this ability at the first place because he self inflict concussions and quake can evade all hits if opponents have concussions. Attuma gets true accuracy after sp1, but without this power gain quake can completely cheese attuma.

Lesson learned, don't use Attuma against Nefaria. Still a pretty frustrating interaction if you accidentally come up against it though

Usually these happen due to a chain reaction right? A loop of sorts? I wonder why it is happening here.

Does Nefaria's evade count as multiple evades?

I don't remember, but Longshot and Spidey Supreme had something similar, don't remember if that was patched.

Exactly. He have that ability mainly to counter quake.

Yeah, that's what made me wonder if something similar was happening with this.

It won't normally be a problem - he can't usually Evade out of a stun. And with all the non-damaging debuffs he places, Attuma is a great option. Not that I think people will be using him as a defender, much.

part of Attuma kit, possibly his sig ability, is the decreased/ increased accuracy schlick; if it’s over a hindo it may trigger more than once? thus stacking concussions being a good thing for him. may be a piece of this, but I haven’t played either enough to state this as fact.

Has anyone faced a Nefaria on Node 49? Same broken interaction with instant SP3 because the node itself is denying power to the attacker.

Polka-dot Power? If you get the chance to capture a video of that, do!

Might be worth watching out for weirdness on nodes like Power Lock and Tyranny too, then.
