Why do I have to click on an event to get rid of the notification?

I already still don't like the design change to events. That aside, now I have to take more time to click on events to get rid of the notifications.
The og way was you just had to go to that section and it flashed new and notification was gone.
It's just plain annoying now to clean up notifications. Even more so figuring out if a notification is for a current event or past.
Seems like these things aren't well thought out.

"Hey guys we changed UI, even tho no-one asked for it and it was working perfectly fine but try this new one instead, ofc you'll have to scroll a lot, tap a lot, see new forced pop-up animations everytime you claim anything then wait for slide animation to be over, is clunky and bug filled but it's new."
😃
If whoever designed this handed it in as an assignment in a college course, they’d have failed.
Now they force you to click on each individual event on the page to clear the notification. It's a dumb over thought change while being AAF.
