Understanding mantis

Can anybody explain why when using storm vs a mantis defender I shrugg off the passive sleep cycle (mutant champ) but when I am using negasonic this does not happen ?

    Mantis sp1 puts an encroaching sleep on you. If you throw a special when you have a prowess it gets removed early. Storm has prowess, negasonic does not.
