Question about AW ranking system.

Can someone explain how the ranking system works for AW? I know it deals with rating (tier), deaths, and wins/losses, but it just seems off this season. We are 8-1 and have won the last 5 wars. However, we have dropped in the rankings 4 wars in a row with wins. We went from plat 4 to plat 5 rank 10,17, and now 25 after wins each week. Some people have said it’s based on deaths/exploration but we have had 100% exploration and between 30-40 deaths which is about average from what I have seen so far in platinum 5.

My assumption is that alliances are winning and dying less but it seems odd to have that happen 4 times in a row. The only other thing I can think of is the tier. We are now tier 3 so maybe that will change it. I’m sure there is something I’m not thinking about but I have never had it happen where we win a war and drop in the rankings, let alone 4 times in a row.

Thanks for the help!

It’s based on your score and the tier multiplier plays a big factor. The overall number of deaths matter where they take place as a big component is the attack bonus. Since you have a max of 3 on each node, there’s a big difference in having 30 deaths across 10 nodes vs 30 across 2 nodes. The win bonus dropping from 30k to 5k has also made your tier more important over the past few seasons s.

Thanks MrSakuragi. Overall I do like making it less matchup dependent but it does feel odd to keep winning and keep dropping even though we are playing “well” for our area.

What tier you’re playing on makes a huge difference due to the difference with the multiplier. I know it may sound crazy but sometimes a loss on a higher tier is worth points more than a win on the tier below it. So if you were winning on tier 4 and other alliances were losing on tier 3 they could still out score you due to the multiplier.

so War rating determines matchups (you match with alliances with similar rating) as well as the tier multiplier applied to your score in each war before it’s added to your season score. That total score for the season determines ranking for season rewards. So generally you should see rating tier and reward tier correlate, but if you’re winning by smaller margins than others at a similar tier your season score might be slipping.

@Wakandas_Finest I think that is exactly it. We are tier 3 now and are moving up way quicker. We must have been right on the edge of tier 3. It seems a bit crazy that we won 4 in a row and moved down in each week and then tied (and lost on fight time) and moved up 40 ranks :).

That's the crazy part @Feuerschwer . We seemed to be doing very well at least compared to all of the alliances we have faced. We just kept slipping after wins. Then we tied this week and lost on play time and we moved up a ton. That multiplier makes a huge difference. It also makes it extremely hard to get movement. I always wondered how teams could take full seasons off and remain in the high tiers, but now I get it. It seems the multiplier makes a very very big difference.

Thanks for all of the help everyone!
