Fellow BG’s players both past and present, what’s your thoughts on the state of the mode?

I’m curious to hear what the thoughts about the mode are, especially for this season- with the incredibly A.I behavior reliant node that we have in the gladiator circuit currently.
I know that you can’t please everyone, and of course some nodes/seasons will have their highs and lows- but to me at least it’s seemed like there’s quite a bit more lows than there are highs.
I’m calling it quits on taking MCOC seriously for a while, and honestly a massive part of that is BG’s being in the state that it’s in.
-New gimmicky and annoying defenders, I have to learn the kits of backwards and forwards; to be able to beat effectively and win a match.
-Meta and non meta champs having a massive gap in overall viability, that there is almost no room for deck building creativity.
-Nodes that encourage people to use the cheesiest champs possible, because let’s be honest- no competitive person enjoys losing all the time. So most matches in the GC, people have the decks of celestial players.
-Rewards that are decent now, but even after that tuneup coming our way; still feel like they’re out touch.
-Matchmaking that isn’t fair or balanced for anyone, I (a high mysterium to middle ground C5 player) should not be matching someone in Gamma or Arcane.
I’m sure there are other things I left out, but these are just a few of the main reasons- that BG’s no longer feels enjoyable anymore really.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk, if you’ve read this far- bless your faces <3

I have not won any battle in BG yet. Died in like 5 seconds every time. Always died as soon as I missed a block or failed to dex. I have no ideas how to win. Maybe to have at least all max sig 6* or r3 7* 🤨

Honestly… this last weekend was a great reminder of why pushing harder in this mode isn’t worth it. Current state of frame rate and AI interactions just aren’t worth high stress modes.

Too much room for the defenders to manifest a mistake, and it ruins the experience for me regardless of changes to the mode.

Come on guys, I am pretty sure OP puts Iron Fist on defense all the time...

Personally I think every BG should have the "aggressive" node, as it stands matches are far too reliant on the AI throwing specials which sometimes just does not happen.

As for the whole "meta" point: In every PVP mode, there will be a meta. If you disable one of them, there will be another meta. I personally think BG with the rotating nodes is actually doing a decent job at having certain champs stand out more from season to season, but obiously Serpent will always be better than Classic Captain America. That's just the nature of the game.

Kabam should be announcing major updates to the mode tomorrow-ish when the info for Season 28 comes out.

My thoughts are this post sucks

Also what new and gimmicky defenders? The hardest one we’ve had in months is Zola and he’s not that complex

Wow meta champs are favored? Shocking. Also every meta brings some forgotten champs back that dominate the meta

Oh wait you don’t like that either, all your posts are like this lmao

God forbid someone is passionate about a game they love, and a game mode that they used to- so they want to see it in a better state.
It’s all good though, have a good one! <3

    Huh?

No room for creative deck building, but I do see now how that was a misstep and rather contradictory- sometimes I struggle saying what I actually want to; especially when it’s over the internet.
Ah well, it is what it is.
Really I just think BG’s in general is impossible to balance, with the nature of the mode.
I think I’ve finally come to that realization.

Mysterium to C5 but nice try cutie ;)
Wow , you hate every meta there is and think it is hard to the point where you keep making posts about it and taking a break, but always end up in Mysterium and C??

Blud wants to use non meta "fun" useless champs in competitive game mode,
Blud complains when enemy uses heroes which benefits from meta nodes,
Blud hates to keep up with new defenders even tho we have 3 bans,

    🤣🖐️

    Huh?

Yes, since the mode has released- I have ended in Mysterium 3+ mostly every season. Besides when I decided to take a long hiatus from the game. Usually I’d end each season around 250-450’ish points, depending on how much I actually played that season.

My past posts though, that I made when I was very annoyed and not calm- probably painted a false picture; so I understand the “dismissive” response to posts I make in relation to BG’s.
The truth is that it feels like keeping up with BG’s in particular, feels like a second job. I’m just not into that kind of vibe anymore, nor do I have the time to invest that much into the mode.
This season I’ll finish in Arcane 1, the lowest I’ve finished in probably about 30-35 seasons of BG’s (estimate)

finally i can convince people that leader isnt mid

Leader was actually one of my few insta bans for this meta, I like the concept of the nodes in theory; but with the current AI behavior it doesn’t execute quite the way I think Kabam intended.

If this game feels like a job for you, then you're right, it's definitely time to step away.
Especially with BG, where you have to constantly be keeping up with every new development/progression/champion.
Unless you're ok with just enjoying the format even if you lose, which some people can't because they're very competitive by nature.

I love BGs but can’t really believe the matchups I’m getting. I don’t believe there are really 10k people with similar rosters to mine. I’ve got 3 R4s and mostly R3s, and even at Gamma level I’m frequently the weaker roster.

Yes I suck, but I thought my roster would give me an advantage lol I’m amazed at how competitive it really is.

Current node combination is really frustrating but in principle I like it.

It's a really popular and successful long-running game with hundreds of thousands of active players.
And every top player is going to be playing BG, which is the format that determines the best players (no revives, no alliance help, no take backs, etc.).
So yes, your roster is probably in the top 1-5% overall, but you're usually competing against the top 1% in both roster and skill.

You’re right there. I guess as a 10+ year player I’m too used to being in the top 0.1% and need to accept I’m a bit of a noob nowadays lol

Most seasons have a familiar rhythm for me. The first 200K points are fun to earn, the last 100K feel more like an obligation. And it doesn’t relate that much to the metas, it’s just the total number of matches required is usually more than I care for.

I actually thought this GC meta was pretty decent. It was unusual enough with the regen that you saw some funky champs like Leader, Viv, etc.

To be honest I really don't think bgs is that bad. Did I have to face accounts with multiple r4s trying to get up to GC even though I only have a few r3s? Yes, but still I got a lot of rewards from it and overall had a good time in even matchups. The game mode itself is fine: rewards are good, playing it is fun, getting to focus on more champs for just bg gives a wider use for your roster, so I feel its not that bad. The matchmaking could use some work sure, but it is meant to be an ultra competitive game mode--your not gonna get all the best rewards as an average player--but the point is that you can still get good stuff even if you can't push that far up. People love to hate especially because it broods hate between lower and higher accounts when in reality it's not that awful.

I’d say my username here as proof-(because honestly I really don’t care about the anonymity that much anymore) but I have no idea what the ToS in relation to that is.

This is a very very well worded response and I do agree for the most part, like I said earlier to someone else- I think I’ve finally come to realize that a mode like this; is completely impossible to fully balance. The nature of the mode is like a chess match in a way, combined with the dice roll of a game like Yahtzee.
I think I’m gonna go give tier 2- tier 1 wars a shot, and see if I like that any better.
Thank you for your feedback, have a great day.
