Kabam's 7* release policy

What made Kabam change their method of releasing old champions at the current highest rarity? I haven't been playing consistently throughout the release of 5 and 6 stars but I don't recall such case for any champion other than obvious trophy champions like jessica jones, weapon x etc. No matter how relevant or meta a champion is, I think they were added to the game through normal means like crystal updates, featureds and maybe some forms of release I'm missing. What happened with the release of 7*s, especially as of late? Why is every new 7* release made exclusive through one way or another?
I feel like 7* basic crystal is losing value over this, we get like 6 champions every titan cycle and that's it. Every new champion released or reworked either goes to the titan, double track, exclusive event, exclusive crystal, is released as a saga chase or behind content like alliance war and raids. Why is that a thing now with 7*s? Methods of acquiring some champions are too restrictive nowadays with many being available for a limited time and then disappearing for regular acquirement methods and keeping their exclusivity for over a year or two, only to return for a few days with yet another special event.
What does everyone think of this situation, what do you think is the reason behind this drastic change to the release of old champions at the highest rarity? Should we be concerned about this change of policy? I'd like to know how the community feels about this.
Also, here is a short summary of champion acquisition below. Note that the numbers can vary but not by much.
Basic: ~114
Not available: ~43
Other f2p stuff: ~37
Total: 201
Which means that:
+ About 1/5 of the roster is not available through any means excluding the july 4th sale which will end in a few days
+ About 1/2 of the champions are not obtainable through the basic crystal

Kabam isn't a not for profit organisation with volunteers running the show
Kabam is a company that seeks profit to continue operations and pay salaries
Someone has to buy 7* champions to keep the lights on
If Kabam gives out every 7* for free, it will cease operations within a year and nobody gets to play with the free 7* champions anyway
What/who is "other f2p ~37"
And your list is taking into account *only* 7 stars, right?
By other f2p I mean those that are obtainable through some other method like titan crystal, competitive game modes, quests like Necropolis for Maestro, Ultron from incursions etc. all of which are basically possible for a f2p to acquire despite champions like OG Scarlet Witch being available only for a small portion of the playerbase.
If I'm not mistaken 201 should be the amount of 7* champions currently in the game though I counted Ultron Classic as well cause I'm dumb so it should be 200 champions available exactly.
In the other hand, it is a way to keep alive 6*.
If the champion is behind a paywall or is a collector the player haven’t got, he/she can upgrade it to rank 5 and ascension it.
The fact is it doesn’t remain so many super champions to release in 7*. The pace is s’ow to put latter the 8*, as written before.
Moreover, Crashed wrote months ago that 25% of the champions won’t be released as 7*.
I just hope Kabam will let go some champions more easily after 2 years (Omega Days…).
Also I know that spending events don't happen every single month. Don't take it literally just for the sake of arguing. It was obviously an exaggeration.
