That's like asking why a game runs better on a brand new Mac than it does a 10 year old Windows. Every generation of iPhone has the same specs across the board. Androids are all different.
Pretty much what Talveran said. Google makes the Andoid OS but doesn't make every Android phone, and each manufacturer makes tweaks and adjustments and adds their own layers of **** on top of Android. So unless you buy a Pixel phone, you aren't running pure Android.
Apple, on the other hand, designs the phone specifically to accommodate the OS...or vice versa.
Also, Android phones are slower to receive OS updates. This is going to be based on your phone model and carrier. AT&T, for example, is notoriously slow with getting Android updates pushed out to their customers, while Verizon is fairly quick about it.
iPhone users don't have this issue because their updates come direct from Apple.
