NO new players can ever get close to catching up.

your content keeps getting worse and more difficult faster than your new players can grow.

Not to pile on but I find this discussion interesting because I had a similar conversation with a co-worker on my job. At my job, things are based on ‘seniority’ so a person who started yesterday cannot logically expect to have and reap the same benefits that someone who has been on the job years before. In the same way, it is totally unreasonable and unrealistic for a new player to expect to catch players that have been playing for a few years. However, Kabam, like my job, has made improvements, better offers and opportunities that was not available to players (or in the case of my job, employees) when they first started years ago. Newer players pull heroes, get resources (such as T4 basic cats) and have opportunities to progress at a much faster rate then older players had when the game first started.

This game, like my place of employment, rewards longevity for it takes time to build a strong roster, to develop skills, to beat harder content. Content that I was unable to complete a year ago, I can now do so because my skill has developed in addition to having better champions. And like my job, I have moved up in ‘seniority’ where my ranking while lower than those that have been playing longer (or those that spend more money, lol!) is higher that those that have just started.

While I understand your frustration, for I too was frustrated with my lack of progression in the game but then I realized it was because I kept comparing myself to others instead of just enjoying my own gameplay. I started studying the game and other players, learning new things from the community that has help me play better and enjoy the game more.

Enjoy the game for what it is, progress as it suits you, spend or don’t spend, it’s your money, your choice. You and your girlfriend will be much happier this way

You've been playing for over a year and you can't intercept to beat Master Thanos? I know he's a total pain to fight against, but even a small smattering of skill should be able to take him down. If you were an older player around in the days of Perfect Block I could understand you having problems with intercepting a little bit. But intercepting is a must have skill in the game now.

If you haven't tried to master that skill, then the game isn't the problem here, it's you not trying to get better. And you have an awesome 5* r4 DV amd really good 4*'s to boot, who theoretically should carry you very far in this game even if your intercepting skills aren't good.

There are a myriad of videos online teaching you how to intercept, the one by Dorky Diggety Dave the best known example. Instead of being a blowhard, direct your energies into doing something more positive. Watch those videos and keep practicing your intercepting skills. You can always restart the path if you keep dying, but eventually you will beat him. Just takes some practice and patience.

    BACK IN MY DAY....

No one got 4* until they had enough shards to open a crystal (at much lower rates than the present) Only the best of the best had r5 4*s and the top player when leaderboards came out AFTER 5* were released was 300k.

Now players who have started this year have gotten numerous 4* from PHC, a free 5* from the 2* arena, and that 300k player is now over 1,000,000 BHR. I would say progression has sped up tremendously

You’ll catch up if you keep playing actively. Kabam doesn’t put out new content faster then you’re able to progress.

How long have you been playing? At least half a year, since you’ve been clearing master for a while. But you can’t intercept? You won’t progress that much if you don’t learn to fight. A few basic things you should be learning is how to parry, evade, bait, intercept, chain specials at the end of your combos etc.

You "top players" are funny tho
New players aren't taught the mechanics of intercept because it was never mentioned in the tutorial of the game
Intercepting is a player's skill and ability to time attacks at the right moments to get a hit in
Don't expect everyone to naturally know how to intercept or to be good at it

    To OP
There was once a time I couldn't evade unblockable iron man sp1
But now I evade it with ease
Just keep playing and doing your best, you'll notice that you'll start doing better.
In terms of progression, a good stable and helpful alliance is all you'll ever need. Luckily I had that

You think progression is slow now, you didn't play the game before they introduced shard crystals

Ty for being realistic. Others are saying in 2 months you can have a decent amount of 5 stars.

I understand how you feel. It does seem like progression gets more difficult. I would just add say, a lot of us have been playing for years. We had to pay our “dues”. We would see the top tier guys and could only wish to get there.

I’m finally starting to feel like I have a healthy roster. I’ve been playing for over 3 years. I have spent more money than I care to say. I remember 4* deals popping up and I would get up in the middle of the night to go to Walmart to get a gift card to buy the unit deal to get a 4*.

Now you can earn a 4* much quicker! My girlfriend plays every so often and she’s got about 8 4*s. Hang in there bud, it does get better but you can’t NOT compare yourself to a player that’s be here for years! Find a good Alliance and grow!

Its not a race. If someone has been playing 3 years and you’ve been playing 6 months, dont expect to catch up. You’ll be at roughly the same place in 3 years too if you put in similar work. Actually m, probably further than they were cause the shatters get a little easier to come by as the content changes. This is why rkthere are tiers in AW and alliance ratinfmgs. The OGs compete with others on their level, not newbies.

    Ok, let me specify.
The reddit posts are almost always free to play accounts.

In fact why not check out Seatins free to play account progression? Little to no arena, no cash. Just playing the game
I try but monthly quests and various daily stuff suck up all energy nothing is left to play story quests. And yes, gold starvation is real and the random generator god hasn't blessed me with a cosmic 4* (or a tech 4*, IP doesn't count). And no, I have not a single 5* and so have many of players around my level. I'm only halfway with my shards.

It’s an even playing field. We have the same challenges as you. Some pay more. Some sacrifice time elsewhere to play more. Some enjoybreal life more instead. Be the tortoise, not the hare and you’ll keep progressing.

...you have less than 30 posts...don't really need Scooby and the gang to figure this out...took about 30 seconds...

The sad part is people were sincerely trying to help you, but you went into close-minded defense mode almost immediately...hence the subsequent posts from everybody.

anyone can donate 2000$ and get as many 5 stars as they want. Natural progression does not allow a decent amount of 5 stars in 2 months. And not completing the content is why i can't catch up. so how does not completing the content help me catch up?

yet I have been playing for 1 month, i am pretty active player and defeated the infinite gauntlet on medium and beginners ( at the time of writing this i am lvl 22) and fully explored which allowed me to get a bunch of infinity dust which i used to buy 5 3* crystals and a stark spidey, all u have to do i grind my dude

I mean, if you haven't seen Brian Grant (Contest Champion) he is an endgame player who is free to play. He's even done a 24 hour new account stream that you can watch to see how he does it.

HA! when I started 2 months after release 1, took me 9 months to get my first 4*! DPx!!! New players are way more privileged.

Are you seriouse? come on! from november till now it is a fiesta for 5* shards. You are complaining couse you want more in less time? how about game longevity? do you want to be on top of the game after a week? a month? hmmm
a new player with a decent alliance can open at last 1 5* a month. this month much more. some months agò it was really harder to get a 5*

Try not to sound so ignorant... the guy used his knowledge as an endgame player to efficiently play the game, combined with a lot of luck he pulled the champs required to smash through all content in the game.
Now go back, check out the progression videos, it’s only about 10-15mins and you’ll realise that I am correct.

Having no 5*s is fine. I’m sure the 4*s you have are better than the first 3 I had, back when they were hard to get (colossus, Venom, spidergwen) but you know what, I made them work, because back then any 4* was a solid option, I took spidergwen into wars, colossus was my main questing champ, Venom, well I didn’t really like his movements so never used him.

And gold starvation shouldn’t really be an issue for those around your level, no offence, but the gold Earnt is at a decent level for ranking 4*s, the issue is when you have to use over 1mil to take a 5* up one rank but it takes like 2 weeks to earn that gold unless you are grinding arena super hardcore.

As for the energy, don’t bother with beginner Event quest, only bother with normal event quest if you need the items from it which aren’t overly great anyways.
Just finish up heroic event quest if you can, maybe do as much of master mode as you can, then if you did that efficiently you should be left with 1-2 weeks of the month, this is when you go back to trying to finish up your story quests

Who said anything about top players? I’m not a top player. I don’t call myself a top player. No reason for you to call me a “top player”.

I also did not say anything about the tutorial. There are tons of video’s out there if people want to learn new things. Dave his video’s especially are really great for new players. Way better then ingame tutorial. I also do not say this is a must. I learned to intercept ingame de to running into stun immune nodes.

Act 4 made me a good fighter. Then master came and I had to step up my game even more. Champs like BP CW and Mordo, damn they made me rethink the parry 5 hit combo thing I was doing. I learned, I got better, I took less damage and I got good at it. I went into arena and practice. Just said to myself “no parry in this fight at all”. Currently I noticed I hit champs a lot when they are blocked, that explosive block node in dungeons was a big pain. So I worked on that. With the low energy monthly I spend some time in act 5 too.

What I did not do was complain others are better, have more time, more money, more champs, more advantages or more rank up materials or whatever else they can have, making it harder for me to catch up. I don’t care about being better then others. I care about beating the content. I do special events, I do uncollected, I get a featured arena when I want to (don’t really find it worth the time) and I care about improving my own game. I’ll never be number 1, making that my goal would just be unhappy. Not playing a game you enjoy because you can’t be numberone seems silly to me.

Hello all! This has become more of a Strategy and Tips thread about good ways to progress, and there's really a lot of great advice in here. As a result we're moving it over to that forum category. Thanks everyone for your contributions to this thread.
