Game Dropping when Switching Apps

Is there a way to eliminate the game closing down when switching (even very, very briefly) to another app like LINE? Alternatively, is there a way to extend the time for MCoC to close when switching to another app?
It’s maddening to swing into LINE to discuss lane assignments or opp placements and have to restart MCoC every time.
Phone is 7+, iOS 12.0.
