I've gotten no requests and I don't know anyone in my alliance or friends who is even playing it? I think it's pointless now.

Everyone I know does them. There will be a new batch of 5* crystals soon. 3 days to hit the milestones so it doesn't have to be a grind. As Jestress said, the artifacts are a permanent currency so even if you don't have the prestige for 5*s they will be there when you do. If free 5*s are pointless then I guess they are pointless.
I never get invites from friends or alliance mates, this could be because they don't play or because they know I don't.

As for the rewards: permenant artifacts redeemable for 5* champs (albeit a little random) which even if duped are full dupes.
3 day periods means it’s a flexible schedule and even with a “demand” for participation that can also be said for getting a 5* from EQ which basically takes 100% from heroic through uncollected each month. 2 cycles of 2 weeks is actually on par with the EQ which can be a bit harder to do considering doing uncollected especially tends to have a lot of players still in-nerved due to having to also participate in AQ and AW which overall make uncollected more of a “when I can have my champs” kind of attitude as most top champs are generally tied up at times for a large portion of players
Do you get enough shards for a 5* in 2 weeks? Well, I don’t. You know they wouldn’t do that. Dungeons are actually pretty useful. Basically a free crystal, and good for alliance events. I stopped playing them after my first 4* pull from them, but then I realised the artifacts had gone up, it seemed more worthwhile.
I feel that the mode was a boring chore with along payoff and it's not worth my time and one of the worse ideas they ever put forth.
I have no problems getting shards and champs and better things to do with my time.
If they lowered the milestones even more made the mode funner with a quicker pay off I may actually play it and have fun
