Forum Tips and Tricks - Insights on the community, behaviors and what to expect

I've been on the MCoC Forum for several years and post way too much. All the time I've spent here, I've noticed the same questions being asked, the same mistakes being made and the same responses being dished out by the community.
I'm making this to help alleviate some of the hassle, grief or frustration you may experience as a new poster or generally uninformed poster.
1) Forum Avatar: yes, you can change it. It has to be done through the full site, though. The full site can be accessed through your browser.
2A) Search Tool: the search tool (located top right) is highly under utilized. Often times someone will post a thread about a current topic and there are multiple threads on the topic already. The forum regulars will either troll you or try to aggressively let you know "you're doing it wrong".
2B) Necroposting: on the flip side, using the search tool can garner you ample venom if you necropost (reviving an old topic). Be sure to check the dates on the last posts as the topic will probably not be relevant and a new topic should be posted.
3A) Grammar and Spelling: you don't have to write in perfect English or worry about typos. Most everyone is perfectly fine with this and the abbreviated use of some words. Most can even recognize when someone is not a native English speaker. Egregious misuse, though, will garner you hostility and your topic will become derailed and people will make fun of you.
3B) Formatting: one word - paragraphs. The majority of forum users will instantly click off your topic if they see a giant wall of text and run on sentences.
4) Rants: rants are usually met with a high amount of venom. It is best to stay away from them. If you do feel the need to post a grievance, make sure it's well thought out, concise and you offer solutions.
5) Trigger Topics: these are topics that are posted multiple times... over and over again... sometimes daily. They will almost always create backlash for yourself. Avoid them. This goes back to using the search tool. If you think you have an original idea, I promise you, it's probably already been beaten into the ground. Some examples of trigger topics are:
1 - rank down tickets (RDTs)
2 - Ghost Rider should be incinerate immune
3 - trading champions
4 - increasing the level cap
5 - please add (insert champ or champs)
6 - nerf (insert champ or champs)
7 - complaining about drop rates (RNG)
8 - Iceman should be coldsnap immune
6) Conspiracy Topics: these are usually met with a collective eye roll and aggressive behavior. These topics consist of you believing Kabam has done something to you or a group and is backed by confirmation bias. It is rare one of these is met with a high amount of positive feedback.
7) Not actually reading: this is a personal pet peeve but the feeling is shared with many of the forum members. You will garner hostility if you don't read and post a response that was answered by reading the original post. This also goes for basic in-game questions that are definitively answered in a description, in-game email or champion abilities.
This is not at all a complete overview of the forum but is a quick snapshot of what to expect when posting. Hope this helps.
