Foreword

Hey all, and welcome to another Changelog for Season 56 of Alliance War! There’s some major changes coming into Alliance War! This is one of the larger updates that we’ve pulled off, and there is a lot to go through, such as large redefinitions of Paths on the War Map, as well as reward updates that will excite end game players with a larger source for Tier 7 Basic Catalysts for your Rank 4 needs. Instead of pushing everything into the foreword, let’s just get to the nuts and bolts of this change for Season 56.

Off Season Reward Update

Because of the extended Off-Season we have for Season 56, we are adding a treat for anyone engaging in the Off-Season. In the following Tiers, players will receive the following on a Per War Reward Basis…

Tier 1 (Elite Map Players) - 3 Valiant Couples Crystals
Tier 2 (Expert Map Players) - 2 Valiant Couples Crystals
Tier 3+ (Challenger Map and Below) - 1 Valiant Couples Crystal

These rewards will go away once the Off-Season ends for Season 56 on March 5th, so get them while they last.

Major Map Update

This is one of the bigger shifts in the Alliance War Map that we’ve done in a while. In order to modernize the paths and give newer Champions more space to breathe in the game, we’ve decided to do an overhaul of most of the map to create new meta diversity, and increase Design Space for newer champions to flourish on both Attack, and Defense. This was a long time in the making, and we hope that these new Node Designs create new Defender opportunities and build a better foundation for War going forward. Before we begin with how these paths will now be designed, let’s go over the new buffs that will be coming to the Contest in Alliance War. Some of them are completely new, and others are variations on existing buffs that didn’t scale well into lower maps.

The list of New Buffs and Path Changes is long and this post is big enough as it is, so please check out the list in full on our website!

Attack Tactics for Heroic / Challenger Maps

We are aiming to simplify the selection of Attack Tactics to Heroic and Challenger Maps from 5 Tactics down to 1 Attack Tactic to choose from in hopes to clear up the choice and focus on the core experience of Alliance War.

For Heroic and Challenger Maps, you will have one Attack Tactic available to you to help you fight threats that you will encounter in Alliance War. The Attack Tactic in question is found below in the DEFENSE TACTICS section…

Defense Tactics

New Season, new Tactic! This time, because of the new Map Update that we have planned going out for Season 56, have made it a lot easier to parse, as well as simplified the threat so that we don’t add new complexity to an already complicated set of nodes above. For the next two seasons, be ready to deal with our new Defense Tactic, GENESIS, and the new Attack Tactic, CODA!

Defense: GENESIS
GENESIS - 1:
  • When a #Genesis Defender finishes a Special Attack, they gain an Unblockable Passive for 2 seconds, with its base duration lasting 1 second longer per Bar of Power spent. This ability cannot be modified by Ability Accuracy.
GENESIS - 2:
  • When a #Genesis Defender finishes a Special Attack, they gain an Unblockable Passive for 3 seconds, with its base duration lasting 2 seconds longer per Bar of Power spent. This ability cannot be modified by Ability Accuracy.
GENESIS - 3:
  • When a #Genesis Defender finishes a Special Attack, they gain an Unblockable Passive for 1 second plus [1/2/3] seconds per level of the Special Attack. This ability cannot be modified by Ability Accuracy.
Attack: CODA
  • If a #Coda Attacker Punishes the Defender's Special Attack, they remove all Unblockable effects from the Defender and gain an Unblockable Passive for 5 seconds, paused during the Defender's Special Attacks. While Unblockable, the Attacker's hits deal 40% of Attack as bursts of Direct Damage.

Power Back Boost 2.0

Power Back Boosts have been a meta defining, and incredibly powerful part of Alliance War for many many years. While incredibly powerful, we have long felt that they trivialized challenges on the map by dealing massive damage, and ignoring some of the expected threats of the fight before they happen. This is something we’re looking to course correct. We don’t want to totally remove their value, but want to at least dial back just how effective they are to coincide with the new Map Update.

Launching alongside the new season,Power Back Boosts will thus be limited to 50% of the Power Spent on the Attack. It’s worthwhile to highlight the wording here. 50% of the power SPENT. This means that champions like Professor X, and Dust that reduce the amount of Power a Special Attack Costs, will also have a Lower Amount of Max Power they can be Refunded. We have also updated them to no longer interact with Ability Power Rate Modification. This means those pesky Ebony Maw Minis won’t lower how much Power you Gain from a Power Back Boost.

With this change, this will help us regularly ensure that fights are difficult, and that the challenge isn’t just “Have 2 Charges on Corvus and a Power Back” to blitz the fight.

Also worth noting here, the description of the boosts has been updated to better fit the gameplay effects of them. The only change in their functionality is the cap of “50% of the Power Spent”, but wording should be much clearer.

An Example of the of Updated Boost description:

LESSER COSMIC POWER BOOST
  • Hit damage from Cosmic Champions' Special Attacks 2 and 3 grant 1% of Max Power per 1% of the Opponent's Health removed. Max 50% of the Power Spent on the Special. Lasts 20 Minutes. Does not work at natural Class Disadvantage or in Battlegrounds.
