The New Ascension Seems Like One of the Worst Additions to the Game
I LOVE MCOC. I have been playing this game for nearly a decade. I play it daily, I have all the content completed, I am active in all of the competitive modes. I have seen everything this game and community has to offer. The good and the bad. I promise I am qualified and my opinion is not baseless. The only reason I am being so adamant is because I want to see this game do good but lately its just been loss after loss after loss. I don't want one of my favorite games to die. Ok, now to the post.
Pretty much from the start I have been very cautious of the new ascension to say the least. After watching yesterday's stream I can confidently say all of my concerns were valid and if anything, ascension seems even worse than what I initially feared.
The new ascension system has many problems. I'm going to focus on the big points and try to keep this somewhat brief. So here we go:
Issue 1: THE NEW ASCENSION IS NEEDLESSLY COMPLICATED. With the new ascension we are getting 11 new ranks, there has been two different resources introduced required for ascension, the champions that can be ascended are split into three different pools and the acquirement methods differ for all three champion pools. These pools will not be updated but maybe they will add different pools in the future. Oh and other champs might be ascended in other ways like through challenges maybe? Why!? Why make it such a needlessly complicated process.
Ascension should be so much more straightforward. Introduce one resource (like ascension dust) and have that be used for ascension. Let players choose what champions they rank, why add the element of chance into it? The most confusing part is that Kabam is talking about streamlining the game and getting rid of bloat. They are deleting variant content, combining different currencies and changing the mysterium store for example in order to make the game more streamlined. So then why make ascension so needlessly complicated? It literally goes against their own goals.
Issue 2: THE NEW ASCENSION TAKES AWAY AGENCY FROM THE PLAYER. MCOC has always been a gambler's game. Especially when it comes to champion acquisition. Very rarely do we get a guaranteed way to earn a champ we want. However, when it comes to ranking champs, thats where we have always been given more agency. We don't control what champs we pull but we can often choose what champs we rank. The new ascension system throws that away completely and instead says "NO. You're ranking up the champion we TELL you to."
This is because there is no universal rankup method for the new ascension. Instead there are champion specific tokens which can only be earned through chance. You love Mojo? Want to ascend him? Hope you get lucky and don't pull patriot from the ascension pool instead.
It's such a frustrating system. It further takes away control and personalization from accounts in favor of monetization and gambling. Because if you do want to have a good chance of ascending the champs you like, you better be ready to spend some units.
Issue 3 and the most important issue: NEW CHAMPION ASCENSIONS ARE NOT FOR THE POOR. It's that simple. Unless you are whaling out on crystals, don't even think about ascending any of the new champs. Maybe sometime next year, Kabam might give some way for you to ascend them. That's what they've told us. They literally have said either spend money or wait a year to maybe get some way to acquire the ascension materials... That's such an absolute slap to the face.
Why would anyone be excited for new champions if they don't have the power to play them at the highest level? Getting new champs is already hard enough. People horde titans to try and get the new champs to play and now theres this added brick wall that just can't be passed unless you're willing to pay money. It's pure greed and nothing else. Let me reitirate:
THE NEW MOST POWERFUL CHAMPS ARE ONLY FOR THE RICH. Because I promise you the new champs we get will be so much better than the purposefully mid champs of the base ascension pool. The entire point of this new ascension was to shine a light on lesser used champs, but thats a load of bull. Because every new champ is also ascendable, but only for people who are willing to spend the money for it.
There is no justification for this. I am begging everyone to please speak out against ascension. Don't support it. If you are reading this, make a post or add a comment, do anything to tell Kabam that this is a bad idea. I am begging CCP members to tell Kabam to make changes. I am begging Kabam to not go through with it.
I love this game. Please don't kill it.

I commend you for trying to reason with pixie but it would be better to just ignore them. Their whole shtick on the forum is just rage baiting and derailing conversations.

Re: The CCP Benefits and Privileges should be review
Take a look at the forum, I have never singled out any non-CCP creator, not even in yesterday’s post. You’re the one singling people. The only time I mentioned KT1 was when I quoted your comment and replied, because you were the one who brought him up in the first place. With that in mind, your last comment is completely irrelevant to the criticism I was making.
Re: No New 8* Champions (equivalent) for most players until 2027
you know whats worse than facing 30 R4s in BG? 40 R4s in BG.
you know whats worse than facing 40 R4s in BG? 40 ascended R4s in BG, sprinkled with like 10 R5s.
have fun competing, because u cant ascend new champs unless you spend 2k dollars every month.
Re: The CCP Benefits and Privileges should be review
Are you really being arrogant by labeling people as KT1 fankid? That kind of reaction feels toxic in itself. The forum is meant to be used in different ways, whether that’s sharing criticism, expressing opinions, or having open discussions. The moment you start throwing around terms like “KT1 fankid and other remarks I've seen, it says a lot about the tone being used. It creates the impression that being toxic toward other community members is acceptable, but being critical of Kabam is somehow forbidden. That’s a double standard. If Kabam chooses to implement something that works for them, that’s their decision, but they should also be willing to accept the criticism that comes with it.
Re: The CCP Benefits and Privileges should be review
The issue for me isn’t about my favorite content creator’s revenue; it’s about being forced to watch content created by a member of the CCP. My concern is not financial or competitive, but about feeling uncomfortable and pressured to engage with material from someone whose content which may not good. Being required to watch this content makes me feel like I don’t have a choice in what I consume, which is the main source of my frustration.

Who even are these people?

“I see…
Maybe your preferred streamer is KT1?
He just sent his troops to the MCoC forums to complain…
And after what he did and said about Kabam and MCoC?
This makes me laugh…
The rage against Kabam finally had an answer — cruel, but wonderful.”

“I’m biased against the guy who scams his fans, blabbers slurs, and promotes alcoholism. Wow man, I wonder why.”

“Oh please, KT1 literally acts like a cult leader. Sure, even I agree with some of his opinions, but…”
Honestly, this just sounds like a bunch of hypocrites.
Most of them clearly have no idea what his streams are actually about. I don’t know where they’re getting these claims about him being a drunk or scamming anyone that’s just absurd. As for the “peixe… whatever” guy, he comes across as an obvious hater and not really worth more than pointing that out.
Also, let’s be real most people in this community are adults. You’re old enough to spend money, whale on a mobile fighting game that literally revolves around violence, but suddenly you become fragile when someone uses raw language or maybe has an occasional drink on stream? I’ve never even seen him promote alcohol in the first place.
I’d even argue that his approach to the game and streaming in general is more mature than what you see in those pinned comments, and probably more grounded than half of the current CCP pool. The topic of the game isn’t all roses and sunshine, and he treats it accordingly instead of pretending everything is sweet and perfect.
BUT my point is
Either the CCP shouldn’t exclude people who clearly care more about the players than the company’s revenue,
or they shouldn’t provide benefits — like the ones mentioned on stream — that give CCP members access to content creation opportunities which can influence their role to that extent.
