New 7 stars will automatically be ascendable. Existing 7 stars will also be ascendable but the process of who and when will be controlled like the release cadence of 7* has been.

This seems more like your personal problem of having a comparatively small account and not related to non-spending of money. Also modders are present mostly in celestial bracket.This is in in undebatably false. Once reaching diamond 3 you should expect 50% or higher to be modders. I have literal countless screenshots at this point. People are still very bad at identifying who is using mods. There are a few very simple ways to determine if people are cheating using hit count/combo count. Once you learn how though, be warned, battlegrounds will be much more frustrating, as you will not be able to unsee how rampant cheating is. Hopefully soon though, the community will have shared knowledge of how to identify a modder, and that change on the part of Kabam will follow shortly thereafter.

Some are just playing for casual fun and there used to be options for easier EQ

The game itself must not be designed for casual players but monthly event quest should be. You understand the difference between endgame content and a monthly quest which should be helpful to develop your own roster?
