Re: Contest of Champions 2025 Q3 earnings report
Over 700k players scored points in crystal cleanse. Which means at least that many players exist and were active during that period. And since there was a progression minimum (I think it was proven) the actual active player count at the time must be significantly higher. And not everyone was aware of the event (every event in the game ever has had people unaware it was going on regardless of all the chatter surrounding it) and opened crystals during it.
Technically, those are accounts not players, but the vast majority of players only run one account actively. Given all the other data points we have where we can definitively state a reasonable estimate for number of players total or number of players within a certain subset (say, the subset of all players that play BG, the subset of all players that participated in AQ, the subset that participate in a certain event, etc) a million active players is probably a pretty good estimate.
A bracketing number is the 1.3 million people we know (or at least we were told) pushed the Rocket button. If there were 1.3 million at the time (and there was no beneficial reason to lie about that way back then) the idea that the game had 1.3 million active players then, and that number has decreased over time to about one million now is also a very reasonable extrapolation.
As to the revenue numbers, I haven’t looked at them closely yet as I am still in Vancouver, but the $33.8M USD would be the lowest quarter I’ve tracked, but year over year quarter comparisons are a bit tricky with MCOC, especially these days, as revenue has been a bit more sloshy than in the past. For example, 2025 Q1 numbers were higher than 2024 Q1, then 2025 Q2 were lower than 2024 Q2, and overall the net of both is roughly the same. We won’t really know the significance of the lower Q3 until we see Q4.
Also keep in mind Netmarble reports per game revenue percentages in whole numbers. That means there is as much as a 0.5% margin for error with these calculations. We really cannot say 2025Q3 is objectively lower than 2024Q1 because those numbers are well within the conversion margin for error. The report doesn’t say MCOC made $33.8M USD. It says MCOC made $33.8M USD plus or minus about $2.4M USD. Ditto 2024s numbers (with different calculated margins of course).
(Note: it doesn’t really say that either: to be technically accurate this is an estimate that does not factor in the fact we cannot reverse engineer the currency conversion properly. Back when I and Kam used to post dueling analyses, I used to make an assumption of currency conversion from USD, factoring in the dominance of the North American market, and Kabam used to assume the spread of MCOC revenue roughly reflected the spread of all Netmarble revenue from all sources, both assumptions having
Re: Thoughts about Champions for 2026
January is literally Dr Strange being treated as a new character a la Iron Man
Re: Summoners Fest and Why I quit MCOC
I attempted to say hello to many. The looks I got made it clear they were not there to interact with me. I smiled at many. Would have been very happy with a polite smile back.
It was the very least they failed at. A polite smile.
Summoners Fest and Why I quit MCOC
Over the years, MCOC continued to provide that vital escape. My health is poor; a rare degenerative bone disease has left me in constant pain and severely limited my mobility. Chronic pain is isolating, but MCOC has always offered me a lifeline to the outside world. It allowed me to be part of something when being present anywhere else was extremely challenging, thanks to the overwhelmingly safe and supportive community amongst summoners.
I'm a generally average player, one of the thousands who have sunk thousands of dollars into MCOC. I'm no one special. I do my part in my alliance, clear basic content, occasionally run a Gauntlet, and grind Arena for units.
Travel is incredibly challenging for me; it guarantees excessive pain for the entire duration. I have to truly commit to a trip. But when Summoners Fest 2025 was announced, I saw it as a pilgrimage. I knew the immense physical cost, but I believed it would be worth it to nerd out for a couple of days, have some polite conversations, and interact with other human beings in person.
I was thoroughly disappointed by the in-person experience at Summoners Fest 2025—and I don't mean the streaming content. The Kabam employees seemed desperate to avoid making eye contact. In eight hours, I had a grand total of two polite interactions. I saw every Kabam employee dozens of times. Not a single one even acknowledged my existence. Zero smiled and said “hey thanks for coming to summoners fest. I see this as the smallest polite interaction possible. I didn't want to know any secrets or even complain. I walked past Dave and Mike 50 times. Zero times did I get even a welcome smile from either.
Meanwhile, I watched them having large, enthusiastic interactions with other attendees: content creators and brawl contestants. The contrast was stark.
The overall experience was so unfriendly and isolating that I cut my trip short and drove home instead of attending on Sunday. Today, I quit my alliance and deleted the game.
It wasn't a huge crowd; anyone in attendance saw me dozens of times, hobbling around with a friendly smile. This trip carried an immense physical toll, endured purely for connection. A few genuine, polite interactions would have made all the difference.
Re: Collar Tech Mastery
Lol I thought I was supposed to be looking at the healing, that's actually a pretty big difference. So it basically does nothing?Sorry, I should've included this above. At 5/5, it reduces opponent's combat power rate by 18%. So that's what we're seeing above, an 18% reduction in power gain from the combo our techie inflicted.
Re: When can the livestreams be rewatched?
Hey folks! Pinwheel reporting live from an airport outlet. We're working on compressing the replay of Day 1 to a manageable size. The plan is to get that up and running on a loop by the end of today and have that run through the end of the day on Friday. Apologies for the delay but we've been working with some pretty large file sizes (8+ hours day 1 after all). Thank you for your patience, almost there!
Re: Thoughts about Champions for 2026
January is J Jonah Jameson ( Spider Slayer) and Doctor Strange rework, Feb we know Blue Marvel and March we know Pixie. All revealed at Summoner Fest
Re: Contest of Champions 2025 Q3 earnings report
Neither will anyone else on this app. We're grown adults arguing over a mobile video game made up of cartoons from comic books. To the real world, we're all weird and nerds.
Re: What's the difference between having only new 7 stars ascendable and releasing 8 stars???
So without the specific Ascension token, any player can rank up/ascend any champs they want, by collecting relatively "generic" rank up materials.
However with this token, players can only upgrade a champ that Kabam let you.
For example you might love Jugg, but if Kabam think he is too much to be ascended then they just won't release his token. Therfore control your decision on who you can rank.
You can only Ascend who Kabam let you ascend not who you want to ascent. I would consider that is micromanaging
Re: Liam is the Battlerealm Brawl winner with Scorpion after 7 rounds
I don't understand your point. The two finalists are top BG players even in whalesgrounds as you call it.
