Just make banquet event solo instead of realm event or alliance event

You spend units, you get rewards, as simple as that

No riding on the coattails of others who spend units and buy banquet crystals

This is why you don't go to an event like this without your own crew. Man of the people you mentioned have been friends for years. Long enough to overcome the social awkwardness of the average gamer.

Being able to strike up a casual conversation is a real skill that took many years in my professional life.
