Do you do any alliance content? AQ radiance and essentia (aq, raids, colloseum) would be the way to get the rank up mats. The good news is with r5 mats coming this year, r3 mats are going to become cheaper as the year goes by.

The big advantage that Nefaria has is survivability. So Void can probably handle the fights just as easily, but he doesn't have the means of recovering health that Nefaria does. Between the two of them, comfort is probably the better

On the flip side - R5 and few more R4s doesn't really do too much for PVE (aside from trying to attain the next progression title). PVE doesn't strictly need R4s or R5s, as they can still be comfortably handled by R3s.

I have those same good science champions you've named, and Human Torch still does stuff none of those champion you've named can do (ie. DoT focus).

My advice - if you don't think you will do the Carina Challenges to get enough R5s to qualify for next progression title, you may consider going for the R5 materials. But in all other scenarios, it is better to take the guaranteed Rare champion than going for materials that PVE content will be providing you anyways over time.

I did that with the other ones but my Hero's run went so bad, I spent close to a hundred revives throughout the whole thing. Granted I learned a lot about those fights that go so I don't think it will be nearly as costly but unlike Abyss, I'm not willing to risk it for this. I'm gonna wait this go until it just goes live on Wednesday.
