I assume once the event is over both sides will have the same amount of points.
At one point the cure top milestone will be hit, and the other event will catch up.

Part of the problem is also how quickly people with the cure will run out of people to send it to. Absolutely no one wants to go through the trouble of hunting for people they don't know to send them something.
