How did thanos win against Thor and Captain

EarthEliteEarthElite Member Posts: 879 ★★★
When nebula summons thanos, he duels with thor and captain. He had no stones at the time, so he should have been an easy win for thor. Yes I know he was not in shape, but he literally could have just thrown a hammer at him!?!?!
And he had two weapons at the time, so there is no way that thanos can defeat a man wealding stormbreaker and mjolnir.
And how did thanos break captain americas shield... Is he hiding a power stone under his hat or something? Considering that he went head on with a non-angry hulk in 2018, that would be physically impossible for someone of his power level to rip vibranium. Is there something I'm missing here??

Why was there an infinity gauntlet in the Thor movie, but thanos still had one made?

they explained that one in Thor 3, it was a fake.

All interesting questions. Perhaps when you're tapped to screenwrite the next installment of a multi-billion dollar franchise and are in need of a "punched-up act 3," you can figure out a more "realistic" method to endanger our protagonists.

What are the odds that a rat technically saved the universe?

Why was there an infinity gauntlet in the Thor movie, but thanos still had one made?

how could Star Lords tape continue playing after 20 years of heavy use?

why wouldnt iron man always have an army of suits to help him out?

Just dont question things in the MCU. There are always plot holes.

The odds of a rat pressing a very specific button in a garage in San Francisco is actually pretty high. Watch FilmTheory's video on YouTube, Matpat calculates the odds of that and believe me, the numbers will surprise you.

Thanos was already a very powerful being before acquiring the Stones. One of the reasons he was able to wield them without
    dying like Tony.

Still why was there a fake one if only Thanos had planned to have it made?
    What was it's purpose?
    Who made it?
Was someone going to use it?
How did Hela identify it as fake if she and Thor at the time had no idea what Thanos did to the dwarfs who he was or what his intentions are?

    It still doesn't make sense.

According to a popular fan theory. Odin had his own Gauntlet and had collected all 6 of the infinity stones to maintain peace all over the universe. But Odin, being a wise man understood how powerful the stones were and how dangerous they could be if they were all kept in one place.

So he decided to scatter the stones all over the universe. Made the Tesseract for the space stone, made the Orb for the power stone and sent it to Morag. Hid the Aether in those rock thingy, sent the time stone to earth.

This makes a lot of sense if you look at Odin's character in the MCU. He was against power hunger, so he gave up the stones even though he had no reason to do so and banished Hela when she became power hungry. So as a reminder, Odin kept a fake gauntlet in his vault. He probably destroyed the real one.

    1. Thanos' weapon was stated to be made of Uru by I believe the screenwriters, probably by Eitri or another one of the dwarves. They were the best weapon makers of the universe, supposedly made Mjolnir for Odin, and Thanos was aware of them as he went there to get the Infinity Gauntlet made. Regardless of the specifics, Thanos has been on a planet hopping conquest and decimation for hundreds of years. In all that time he definitely could have gotten a weapon made that was as strong as vibranium. A sharp object as strong as vibranium can damage the shield: Black Panther was able to significantly score the shield with his vibranium claws.

    2. Mjolnir is not just an I-win button in all fights. Later in the fight when Cap wields Mjolnir it is clear that the weapon itself is strong enough to affect Thanos, but Thanos is able to simply knock the hammer out of Cap's hand, which doesn't trigger Odin's enchantment. In the other MCU movies it has been established that Mjolnir might be "unwieldable" but it isn't infinitely powerful. It bounced off of Cap's shield in the first Avengers movie. Basically, its magic. He can place the hammer on someone (like Loki) and they can't move it. But if he throws the hammer or swings the hammer the hammer isn't an irresistable object that no one can stop or deflect. In fact, Thor does throw the hammer at Thanos near the end of the movie: Thanos simply ducks out of the way.

Basically, Thanos has been a warrior and a killer for a very long time, and he's probably faced a lot of very strong opponents. He is both extremely strong and extremely durable, but he also has a ton of fighting skill. That's what makes him a match for the Avengers.

It should also be noted that mere possession of the stones in the Gauntlet doesn't necessarily make someone super powerful. In the fight on Titan both Strange and Stark temporarily nullify the power of the gauntlet by preventing Thanos from closing his fist or gesturing with it. In those moments Thanos did not seem overtly more powerful than he seemed during Endgame. Conversely, if mere possession of the gauntlet made someone all powerful, then Hulk could have put the gauntlet on and then defeated Thanos without snapping his fingers and causing crippling damage. But that doesn't seem to be an option the Avengers consider at the end of Endgame.

Actually, that's an interesting calculation that they do, but there's another statistical principle that we should technically be invoking: the odds of something happening that has already happened are 100%, no matter how complex and improbable the event seems to be. You can't calculate the odds of something happening that has already happened, and that's actually a mistake we're making here.

Since Strange saw the future and picked one, he picked a winning one. If it wasn't a rat it would have been a dog, or a security guard's burrito, or an earthquake, or it would have been a completely different scenario entirely. The Avengers are living in the only possibility where they win, because Strange picked that one and directed them on that path. He knew in advance where the winning lottery ticket would be sold, and he made sure the Avengers were standing in line when it that happened. The odds of that happening were 100%.

All futures have some rare events in them. But we end up in one of them nevertheless.

I would add, when Thanos from 2014 showed up in 2023 at the Avengers Compound, he showed up with the knowledge that they have already killed him.

In Infinity War, he was holding back on Titan. His goal wasn’t to kill them all, it was to retrieve the Infinity Stones. He bargained with Strange, kept his word and let Stark live. In fact, he didn’t kill anyone in the confrontation on Titan. In 2023 though, he knew that he was fighting to the death. As did Tony, Steve & Thor, hence their brief exchange before engaging Thanos.

In the final battle of Endgame, Thanos’ motivations have changed. He’s intent on killing the entire universe, and he knows The Avengers are capable of killing him. Therefore he was fighting with a different sense of urgency, and really put on a display as to how powerful and dangerous he can be without the Infinity Stones augmenting his natural abilities.

I personally thing Endgame is a more fun movie to watch, but I think Infinity War is a far superior and much bolder movie. It’s the “Empire Strikes Back” of the Avengers series. Endgame is a better version of “Return of the Jedi”.

Well in Thor the Dark World it said his father hid the aether and it had been untouched since remember Odin though it was destroyed so this theory doesn't make sense.
