5* Gulk is he worth it?

I am currently debating on wether or not to take my 5* Gulk to R4. I am definitely going to take him to R3 for V2 and other niche situations (dormammu, starburst etc)

I was wondering though, is he worth taking to R4. At my current position regarding resources etc a R4 5* is basically a 5/65.

I am looking towards act 6.1 completion. Gulk sounds like the best option for 6.1.1 but how useful is he in regards to the rest of the chapter and even act.

So can anyone who has ranked him or even those who haven’t ranked him help me, how much do you use him, how useful is he on a daily basis and why did/didn’t you rank him up

Gulk has a lot of utility for the early mid-level player, especially with his sig level higher. He adds a level of durability besides being able to take out obstacles with his Face Me. With an expanded roster, you'll probably rarely use him, but until then I suspect you would find him to be very useful at r4. But he's not going to be the centerpiece of any team I would recommend gunning for Cavalier.

Sadly mine is unawakened. When you say he is not the centrepiece of any cavalier team would he still be effective when used alongside AA Ægon and Silver Surfer or should I wait for somebody else to fill that spot

My GHulk stay at r3 for long time and I have never put him on the field in Act 6 exploration. I found little usage of his Face Me in quest and I’d like to use The Thing instead.

Ghulk fulfills a niche where he can greatly reduce passive degeneration like that of dormammu and starburst, so yes definitely worthy of R4.

Not sure how useful Aegon is in 6.1, but AA could work for most of the quests. All I mean is he's good as a sidekick, not as the main champ. Also the fact that he's unawakened really hurts how much you'll get out of him in 6.1. Given how precious t2a sounds like it is for you at this point in the game, I'd probably pass on taking him to r4 if I was in your shoes.
It’s not the T2A I run enough AQ to have a steady flow of that it’s the amount of gold and T4B needed. It’s over 10 T4B to take a champion from ranks 1-4. Also when I did a poll on how effective Ægon is in 6.1 many people said he was very good for it. I was considering using him for Xbones because of the tenacity

@TP33 go buy a rift detector and use it when you see 5* science awakening gem. Boom

Sorry saving the Chronometer for Ægon.

I’ve got him at 6* - recently awakened - and I never found him to be spectacular. He has a reasonable amount of utility though. To take full advantage of his face me you’d have to double dash back in 6.1.1 which felt a bit awkward when I was playing about with it but even just playing normally it does allow you to pretty much ignore the mechanic and if you trigger it meh, heal most of it back and enjoy the extra damage.

I found him to be very useful in V2 though so if you have a limited XL roster it’s not a bad choice. Investing in an XL for V2 if you explore is ultimately going to get you 1 R4, 3 2016 R4, 1 R5, 5* AG which is nothing to sniff at.

Also there’s a lot of starburst in Map 6 which he excels at.

I'm a big fan of ghulk personally. He's got some good match ups (namely dorm, magik, meph, terrax, domino) that he excels in if you don't have another counter. He also counters some annoying nodes effectively, including starburst, nano-plague, and no retreat.

He's got some decent utility on top of face me, including poison immunity and heal block off his l1. He does have enervate off his l2, but I don't find it to be all that effective in most scenarios - his l2 is best if you use it at 100 crowd excitement so you get the stun + enervate.

The main problem with ghulk is maintaining his crowd excitement. When it's low he's really not hitting that hard. If you're against aggressive opponents with short special animations it easier to keep up, as he gains some whenever either champ uses a special and when either champ lands an attack. So more punishable specials means higher crowd excitment and more damage. But come up against champs with longer special animations or more passive AI and he struggles with his damage output a lot. And even at 100 excitement he still isn't the hardest hitter (though he isnt a noodle either).

It really comes down to if you think you need his utility or not with your other roster. He's a solid poison immune champ with heal block and a unique ability in face me. I've used him alongside cap IW for a decent amount of act 6, but I wouldn't consider him a staple in my team. I consider him r4 worthy.
