Everyones talking about Burnout, what about ‘Catch up’

So a large portion of the player base are talking about burnout, in particular endgame burnout, when you run out of content and ultimately motivation in the game, Act 6 explored, EQ is too easy and AW/AQ don’t yield enough rewards for the stress. However I’d say that a large percentage of the player base aren’t endgame players who have pretty much finished the game. I am part of that percentage and I’m suddenly being struck by something I call ‘Catch up’

Catch up is basically where you’ve progressed quickly and under below-ideal circumstances, meaning you have not many options other than to wait.

Here’s my longer explanation. I joined the game almost exactly 2 years ago. I played once a day on the bus and back, it was more of a small side game I played. I soon got bored seeing as it was taking me weeks to get 4* champions and when i did they were all bad and i basically didn’t know what to do, i didn’t know about the forums or the YT community and my only 4*s were Symbiote Spider Man and a Duped Loki (tragic), so then I deleted it and played some other games for a while. When I got a new phone a year later I went to download some games and I rediscovered MCOC. I downloaded it thinking it was harmless, boy was I wrong! Just in that 1 year gap I could tell, progression was WAY faster. I got lucky out of PHCs and got 2 4*s early on and from there I was getting a 4* every few days, it felt like a completely different game. Then I discovered the forums etc. and a year later I’ve done Act 5 and I’m moving towards Cavalier (which I’m pretty sure didn’t exist when I first started)

So in just a year I’ve managed to get all the way to the end of Act 5, crazy right? However getting there took some different times. Act 1 and 2 were done within days of each other, on my mini I sat down and cleared through the whole of Act 1 in 2 hours, it’s EASY. Act 2 was a walk in the park and nothing special to be said. Act 3 took me maybe a week or 2 after that, it was my longest venture. However between act 3 and 4 there was a month or so break and act 4 itself was far harder, I couldn’t just use rewards I had retrieved from story mode I had to dip into EQ and stuff like that (fun fact it was only until Act 4 chapter 3 I bought dexterity, I just didn’t see it’s value until the unblockable specials nodes etc.) between Act 4 and 5 was an even larger gap, I got my first R5 4* and waited months until I dipped my toe into act 5.1. 5,1 was far easier then it seems yet in 5,2 the difficulty really ramps up. I spend 3 moths waiting until I finally beat the Collector. After that 5.3 and 5.4 seemed easy. However now I’m at Act 6. Sadly it’s only recently I’ve got a full team of good 5/6* champions, at the end of Act 5 it was only IMIW/AA that could be considered not meme tier of my 5*s. But now I need to wait until I’ve got 5/65 champions before Act 6 (ive tried it was brutal), i know what to do, glory store, EQ, Act 5 etc. but now it’s just a waiting game.

So ‘Catch up’ is where a player has progressed through content at a speed meaning the next piece of content is pretty much un touchable, this can happen because of a lack of 5* luck or for many other reasons. In my case it was because 5/65 champions will take a long time to get, not that it’s impossible to do act 6 without them just that I don’t feel comfortable doing it without good counters.

So can we please discuss this, I feel like it’s so overlooked, the fact that some players are stuck not just at the 6.2 champion but also in all forms of story mode, before taking on act 4 or 5 for example, or at the collector, not everyone is burnt out bc they’ve literally got nothing to do.

That also happened to my alt account. I breezed through act 5 with 4/40 dr doom, and then Medusa for the ultron. Now, I can’t get cavalier because my only 5 star who is good for act 6 is gwenpool, who still dies fairly quickly because of her lack of block proficiency.

yeah, everyone on here is like I’m burnt out and I’m trying to catch up but at the same time I kinda don’t want to do 5.3 and 5.4 right away and stuff because I’ll need 5/65 for cavalier and I don’t want to wait for a full team of good useable champs

Literally every person who has ever played this game or is in act 6 has had catchup as you put it, i think people miss the point entirely when endgame players discuss burnout, the games been out 5 years those people who have everything done are a minority but they also have the biggest voices in the community becuase of guides and roster openings and champion indept videos, they want kabam to make more content for them to enjoy and grind, its the same with any game you 100% theirs no incentive to keep going, but on your point this is a progression game i am currently on 6.4.1 only took 2 years lol, i think half the community forgets that this game is a progresion based game and not a you can finish everything in story within a couple of months so those who say catchup is a problem its not ot the way the game was intended thats why its called a progression based game

    Everything stated above.

Can't get from point A to D without going through B and C. Trying to "catch up" to youtubers who've literally spent years building their accounts is a fool's errand.

I’m personally not exactly burnt out on my main, but I have very little motivation.

However I am suffering from what you have explained as I blasted through act 4 and the beginning of act 5 with a single r4 4*. Now I’m a bit stuck.
