1) If an incinerate is on you, you will take more block damage than usual because incinerates cause block penetration (not sure if I've explained this correctly)2) On the fight screen when you choose which champion you want to use you can see how much attack an opponent has. Usually if they have 5k + attack, block damage will be a fair bit higher than what you would normally take. 3) Some champions have higher block penetration than others. Say champion A has an attack rating of 5k and champion B has an attack rating of 5k as well. If champion A has higher block penetration stats than champion B then expect to take for block damage from champion A. 4) Some champions also have really bad block proficiency like Cull Obsidian and others have great block proficiency like Doctor Doom. Champions with higher block proficiencies take less damage from block damage, so the champion you use also determines how much block damage you take. 5) Finally, if you want to minimise block damage, invest into masteries which minimise block damage in the defence part of the mastery tree. Hope this helps and feel free to ask us anymore questions you have!

A small correction, incinerate actually reduces block proficiency by 50% while it is active and removes perfect block chance. And it's not Doctor Doom's block proficiency, it's his 42% armor rating and 35% crit resistance that makes him so tanky, but his block proficiency is really good too(69%)And yes, OP, if u have already not, put 4 points in block proficiency in the mastery tree, very useful for mitigating block damage

Champions have the ability to crit through block as well which can deal quite a bit of damage

If the opponent has 50000 block penetration and 100k attack, you will take a little bit more block damage than usual is this comment really needed? stop trolling and give him a legitimate answer smh. @Jreed2560 which content are you doing where you observe high amounts of block damage?

Noticing it mostly in aq. Losing over half my health using omega red and not taking a single hit. Can't even make it up using his regen
Block proficiency and armour decrease block damage taken. Block penetration increases block damage dealt. Something like incinerate halves block proficiency, so it will increase damage taken from blocks. A champion like cull obsidian or wasp has low block proficiency, so they take more block damage than champions like doctor doom and captain America, who have high block proficiency. Additionally, playing as Hyperion, if you’re up against doctor doom, with 3000 attack, you might take 250 damage on a parry. But if you’re using Hyperion against colossus, also 3000 attack, you might take 150 damage on a parry. This is due to doom’s high block penetration that is quite unique to him.Additionally, armour affects block damage. So champs like warlock, guardian and g2099 have armour ups buffs which reduce damage taken. Guardian gains extra block proficiency from his sig ability so he takes minimal damage from blocking. Warlock has quite high block proficiency so he also takes less parry damage.Oh and parrying reduces block damage. Is states in its description that it reduces damage taken from blocking by up to 25%. This is how captain America can get perfect block parrying a lot of the time. His super high block proficiency paired with the 25% damage reduction from parrying means a lot of the time he takes no parry block damage. But champs like doom, with high block penetration, deal more damage into block, so usually captain America won’t perfect parry against doom.
And the Willo comment has magically disappeared along with any reactions to it. 😑
