It's silly and an obvious cash grab. This is just to mind f the community to rewire everything they learnt past 5 years. This has nothing to do with skill.
Learning how to rewire what you've learned to do something differently in a given situation is inherently a skill, what do you even mean that it doesn't?
You will find no sport or art where someone cuts off your ladder to let you fall, just so you can climb up again. Then the climb becomes meaningless due to the lack of real progress.
Ok I'm sorry but that is the dumbest analogy ever. Root is about challenging players to have to learn something new not stopping them from progressing. Challenge is what we need without it also being a paywall and that is what root is, you dont need a specific character at all, just practice.
You need to practice to unpractice. For 5 years, we learned to outrange physical attacks. Our muscle memory is trained to move out of the way. What's the point of learning the complete opposite?

I’m sorry if this comes across as a personal attack on you because it’s not - but what are you on about...
I literally learned how to do it after facing the first special attack from the first champ. You’re not making any sense.

As you literally just said, its adding layers and complexities to your muscle memory; its still the same special attacks/animations you're dealing with.

Skill is basically muscle memory. The more you train, the more movements are stored as muscle memory. Muscle memory allows you to execute these movements without conscious thought. Improvement is to add more complex movements on top of already memorised movements. In doing so, you create a repertoire of instinct movements. It's a ladder, the only way is up.

Kabam obviously doesn't want players to learn based on muscle memory. They don't want us to progress. A large part of their revenue comes from our failure. This root mechanic is just another way for them to make money, but they sell it as if it is good for us.
Sorry this is nonsense and you typed out a lot of words without really saying anything at all.
Skill is not ‘basically muscle memory’. If that’s the case shouldn’t you be including inverted controls in this then because that’s definitely not unconscious thought.
Biomechanically it is just that. Repetition creates muscle memory. Skill is nothing more than the well-timed execution of sequential memorised movements. It doesn't matter if you catch a ball, perform a dance or play a mobile game, the learning process is the same.

Root is just a new skill you have to learn and get used to. Besides now you can becoming even better at dexing specials against the wall

But what’s any if that got to do with root? It’s a new interaction in the game. You must surely have this argument anytime something new comes in like: flow/stubborn tactics, inverted controls, destructive feedback global etc..
Some specials that require distance to be dexed, can’t be dexed if rooted at close range (YJ sp1 f.e.). Kabam needs to take the extra time to check if any defenders placed on each quest with root, their specials can be dexed rooted. I personally doubt they’ll do that, leading to several problematic combinations 😠

then block
If unblockable? Anyway I’m using Archangel, Magik and Quake for rooted fights 😉
I like it for the most part, but some melee specials have me very nervous. Like, how in the world do you avoid Warlock’s L2? Or LC’s L1? Both of them lunge forward so making distance while still being close enough to bait it will be very tricky.
So long as they really pay attention to who is getting it, I am fine; but the second they put it in AW or something it is gonna get abused very much.

I don't think it means what you think it means.....
Lol since when did we need someone to start inventing the definition of skill.
Dude. It’s a nice mechanic. Makes the game fun, different. Gets us out of the routine. You don’t even need to play it everywhere. Just in the side quest.
It’s not even that hard haha just play a couple fights and get used to it.

Do you know anyone who spent cash to get through it? I don't. Pretty poor cash grab if it doesn't grab cash. @Qacob I agree. I don't usually read the nodes unless I die so this one took be by surprise but I thought it was fun.
I agree with the OP. Root is fun!!! Sure, I got clipped a couple times due to my own mistakes, but it drove me to do better. It adds a little more complexity to the fight and requires attention to detail. Frankly, I love it!! I'm quite certain there will be times where it frustrates me, but where's the fun in rolling everything with 0 challenge? Failure is our greatest teacher. So what if you make a mistake? As long as you learned something from it, it's inherently a gain in the long-term.
So let's just make every special for new champs an 18 step evade.... unblockable... can't wait until they add heimdall sp2 mechanic to them all. Can't evade, can't block. Do you really think its not around the corner? oh and go ahead and block massacres sp2. Please, I beg you.
Not all champs have that and i love the ROOT mechanic, though i do agree i can never dodge masacares sp2
Lol, why ppl so scare that they will put some awful combine with root, of course they aware that, they are game designer, they have bigger mind and will nerf it in case of ppl complain, it like they will ever combine "Do you bleed ?"with bleed immune

Can't skill also be using what you have learnt to overcome new situations?
I'm excited to see this new mechanic. The combinations in the future will suck, ht this is a change and is something to shake up what we know. If it was an easy to bypass mechanic from the start then wait would be the point of it
It's good ,I was running epic dif. in raid and that blue or violet ring like disc below was good ,however my 1 champ got K.O. in front of colossus' SP2 unblockable,it's easy to wait and dex but in some conditions we can get wrecked (with one slow movement of finger)

I had a lot of fun playing with it today. Obviously there could be some horrible combinations. But that’s true if every champ and node
I have to hope that’s not where they take this and keep it is a fun little aspect

It's more challenging and gives me that extra incentive to dex the specials
