Trying for Feature 5*

Is it really worth 15,000 red shards to try for a feature 5* anymore? The last few times I tried for a feature 5* I got weak champions. Don’t get me wrong I know you’re not going to get the feature champion every try. But I recently tried for Medusa and didn’t see her stroll across the screen at all. I read on a website some months ago that you have a 20% chance of getting the feature 5* is that true? I don't think so anymore.

If your focus is good 5* champs, still currently worth it if the champ itself is very good. That value may shift in the next couple months and also with the intro of 6* champs. Personal choice.
A lot of people seem to think that if the odds were actually one in five, they should be able to do a little better than that and get the champion after three or four shots. But that's just wishful thinking. If the odds are actually one in five, that means some people will get the champion in less than five tries and some will take a lot more than five tries and the overall average is going to be about one in five. Truly random chance means you can't predict how many crystals it will take before you get the featured, and you shouldn't expect to be the lucky guy that does better than average.
At the California Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas there is a wall that has plaques for the names of the people in the so-called "Golden Arm" club. These are people who have held the dice on a **** table on a winning streak for over one hour. Statistically speaking, the average player in craps will roll between eight and nine times. That's about five minutes. The Golden Arm club requires on average about 100 dice rolls.
Imagine you had a one in eight chance to pull the featured. There's an entire wall of people who managed to avoid pulling the featured champ after a hundred crystal openings. That's not proof the dice were loaded on those days. That's just what naturally happens when random chance operates over enough people.
To the original question: is it worth it? That's a difficult question to answer. I did the math for this a while ago, but the math contains some important conditions. The bottom line is that it depends on the featured. The more valuable you think the featured is, the more you should consider going for the featured. The less valuable you think the featured is compared to the current contents of the basic crystal, the less you should go for it.
I took three shots at Iceman and got Black Panther, Colossus, Iceman. I spent 45,000 fragments to do that. That would have been enough to open four basic crystals and some change. Let's call it five. What are the odds of my opening five basic crystals and getting a better opening than I actually got? In my opinion, not good.
But that's because I valued Iceman very high, ranked him up to 4/55, and use him extensively when I need a very strong attacker. He's already paying me back for his costs. I wouldn't spend the fragments in that way for just any featured champion.
Get the basic crystal instead and pray for those 6* shards.
