What's your strategy for building your 6* crew? Getting regular 6*s for 10k shards each or getting featured 6*s for 15k?

Getting more 6*s in general to build roster? Basic crystal. Looking for a specific champ? Featured

This is going to sound like a cop out, but my strategy when it comes to 6* crystals is to open basics unless the featured is better. The thing is, there's a couple of ways in which the featured could be better, some of them requiring more math than others to determine.

First, the featured could have a significantly higher effective return on new champions. What does that mean? Well suppose you own exactly half of all the champs in the 6* basic. That means on average you'll be getting a new champ every other crystal. New champs will cost about 20k shards on average. If the featured costs 15k but 75% of the champs in that crystal are new (you don't own them) then on average you'll pull a new champ about once every one and one third crystals - or if you prefer, you'll likely pull three new champs out of every four crystals. That means new champs cost 4x15000/3 = 20000 shards per new champ. That means the cost of getting new champs is the same in the basic or featured crystal (in this example). If the featured contains more than 75% new champs, it is actually the better choice for expanding your roster.

This calculation is different if you have the Sigil, because if you have the Sigil (and are TB) you can buy 6* featured crystals for 13k shards. That changes the equation of how packed the featured needs to be in new champions to make it superior to the basic.

Second, the featured could be stacked with especially strong champions. If you're specifically fishing for rank 3 candidates, say, you could do the same calculation above but looking at what percentage of basic champs are rank 3 worthy (in your opinion) verses the ratio in the featured crystal. Using the same math, there's a break even point where any crystal with more than that many R3 worthy champs makes it more cost effective than the basic crystal.

As an arena grinder, my number one priority is generally to expand roster, to get as many different 6* champs as possible. But occasionally I will change priorities if I think there's special circumstances, like the featured a few versions back that just contained so many blockbuster options it was worth going after. At the moment, the current featured crystal is not good enough for me to spend 15k shards on, but it is good enough for me to spend 13k shards on, so that's what I'm doing. I buy the Sigil option, and while it is on cooldown I spend the rest of my 6* shards on basics.

I should point out that the general recommendation to most players is buy basics. Unless you know what you're doing, you generally end up better off getting more shots at good 6* champs than trying your luck with the featureds.

Usually I recommend going for the basics and that’s what I normally do, but I’ve been going ham on this featured trying for Mr. Negative. Which is a bummer because this featured is lackluster and I still haven’t got him after 12+ tries.

I usually go for featured since my 6 stars roster is kind of big.

Right now i'm looking for shang chi or mr negative. But in this process I already got jabari panther and silver centurion which are newest champions so I wouldn't need to hope for them on the basic later.

After this featured I'll definitely be going for the new featured because hercules would be there and he is my most wanted champion right now.

The only two champions I would love to get from a basic are prof x and immortal abomination so it's a safer bet for me going for featured.

If you don't have a really good 6 stars champions then you should go for basics.

My 6* roster is decently expansive for a cav player. I went with a featured just because I had enough and got a Sabertooth. Wasn’t what I wanted but definitely not bad, but I overall regret it. I’d say always go basic until there are only 2-4 6*s that you need

I have never gone for a Featured 6* but once I beat the Grandmaster then I will treat myself to one

Have ~60 6* and I haven't opened a single featured till now. ~12-15 dupes... and personally I have no plans to open featureds anytime in near future.

I have about 124-130 6* I use maybe 30% of my roster and 29% of that being 6* champs.

Disclaimer here: I pulled all the featured champs in this pool except Shang chi.

I typically go all featured champs. Lately I been going with basics to fill some gaps In my roster.

Because I been going almost exclusively with featured champs I have had the opportunity to play all the new champs and rank a good chunk up. Downside is the buffs.

I feel like I’m missing out on the new buffs
Kabams doing monthly. I want to start collecting duds I don’t have “ venom pool” “moon knight” etc.
