About one in twenty four players who open featureds are going to pull the same champ twice in their first two pulls alone. It happens.

Apparently I’m one in 24 - or maybe even a more rare player. I pulled two Sersi followed by two doc Ocs. Wasn’t super happy with a double dup on an existing 6* (oc) and guess I need to do some research on Sersi. The next 3 were very good as I got two of my top wants:

As usual Team Pop did better for me on featured than Team Spin.

@DNA3000 Question for you: Have you seen a good tool or have a good rule of thumb on when you should keep going on the featured vs. go back to the basic pool?

Since I pulled Hype and duped my Nimrod not to mention already have Claire (and don’t need her duped), I basically have two more I’d REALLY like to pull (Kitty and Knull obviously) and now very much want to get Hyperion duped. I also wouldn’t complain about Emma nor a dupe of my Dragonman. Probably wouldn’t feel super bad about more sigs on my Nimrod, but not enough to keep pulling the featured for. So, with 5 or 6 still on my target list I’m trying to decide how many more featured crystals to pull. Definitely will do one more for 13k on Monday since I’ve got the sigil but after that…. I do have a number of champs in the basic pool I’m hunting for, particularly now that Herc and Peni are there, but obviously the odds are much lower to pull the champs I want there.

My rule of thumb is to count up the number of champs I would be happy with in the featured and compare to the estimated ratio of the basic (you could count to be precise, but I usually don’t). For me about one third of the basic champs I’d be okay with. For the featured to be worth it the ratio has to be worth the cost, and since the featured is 50% more expensive (the Sigil reduces this for a few crystals) the ratio has to reflect that. One third would be eight of 24, to account for the higher cost the featured should contain at least 12 out of 24 I’d be happy with. Different people would have different numbers, but that’s the estimate for me.

This is just a rule of thumb. I don’t automatically switch when the featured ratio drops below the basic, but at least I know how far I’m pushing things. I also try to nudge the comparison a bit to account for the fact that some of the targets in the featured are highly valued (for me), and this is the best time to target them. The numbers inform my judgment, but don’t dictate it. For example, I continued pulling the last featured beyond the point where the numbers turned against me because there were a few champs I really wanted, but I also knew I was pushing past the break even point so I curtailed my final set of pulls to save the shards for this crystal.

Actually, I look at two different ratios: the “would be happy with” ratio for both, and the “would really want” ratio, which is generally different. I generally use the “would be happy with” ratio initially, and as the crystal nears the end of its lifetime I start thinking more about the “would really want” ratio to see if it is worth pushing my luck if the other ratio says to stop (which eventually it tends to, as eventually I start depleting the group of champs I would be happy with as I pull more featureds).

I started hoarding once Kitty was announced. By today, I had 308K. I could have had more but I opened 8 of the ones trying to get Herc (I did, twice)
