Will AW be sustainable after inputs are fixed?

thepiggythepiggy Member Posts: 504 ★★★★
For the last 8 months, we have received a comp package that includes a handful of 14k alliance health pots every week. Very generous, but when inputs are fixed we are left using the old glory store potions that have stayed the same since they came out in 2017.

The 6k potions were perfect for the 4 star meta in 2017 and were very useable into mid 2020 when we were still relying on 5*s, but not in 2022. One death now with a boosted r4 Hercules or Apocalypse and we item out.

I know very skilled players who use the 14k heals and even they can come close to iteming out in high workload or difficult wars through chip damage and the odd death.

If glory potions haven’t changed in 5 years and won’t in the very near future, what’s going to happen to war because this doesn't seem workable at all.

I do only 1BG war but in tier 4/5. I have been enjoying war because of the compensation. The L5 health potions are expensive in units. The L4 potions in glory are pricey and not too useful for an R3 champ. Once compensation is over, either I will stop doing war or just go back to using L1 team revive and chip away. That is where champs like corvus and Hercules will excel in.

I stopped playing war at a high level ages ago when my alliance blew up during the prestige matchmaking debacle. I'm in Plat 4 and only revive/heal a couple wars a season. Still going to miss the good free potions even though I sell most of them. The glory store potions badly need an update.

Well it depends, if you aren’t having many issues, then you will probably drop down.
My input issues seem to get worse every update so am using so many health potions to heal up because of dropped inputs. I’m looking forward to playing without having to use the items to recover from input issues

The free AQ and AW gravy train ending will very sad, but a rude awakening for a lot of players

That it will be. It's been nice not having to choose potions over rank up materials for so long lol.

IMO compensation made wars in plat 1- plat 4 wars worse than before.

Here's my thought how as I was used to be officer and organised BG defense.
Many ally in high tier have different approach to the wars. And placing defenders plays big factor. I can't say about every plat1-plat4 alliances or even Masters alliances too. But I know people from master to gold 3 ally.

While placing defender alliances focus on getting kill plus giving hard time to attackers. But on other side many alliances used to create tricky paths instead of only few difficult fights. This was to done to lure opponent in traps to use their items thus mentally exhausting them which can make them nervous hence resulting in more deaths. This could even lead to not to explore the path at all if they are out of items. Plus items are expensive in glory store. So maintaining high stash with rank up materials (as many players intended to use glory that way IMO) is chore. So this demotivates attackers and restricting them.

But with the compensate many things changed. Players became more aggressive. Their goal become to not die rather finishing with good hp. Cuz they got free stuff waiting. This somehow also indirectly ( by only very small margin or number IMO) made skill factor little bit Rusty too.

Now imagine a scenario when no more free stuff plus attacker ban. That would be interesting

There is no way AW will be sustainable if the free items stop. Every war could end up costing 300-2000 units which is ridiculous. Healing a R4 champion to full with these small potions means, you will item out after 2 lost ABs. We need a change here.

NGL you mentioned everything that was wrong with war and said it was a great thing.

Why should we be getting stressed even though we won the fight? Why should we be punished for winning? Why shouldnt "to not die" be our main objective when it is literally the main reason we win or lose war?

Kabam has previously stated in interviews that they never intended for the glory store to be the main source for alliance war potions. While I agree they need to be updated, I don't expect anything to happen.

I'm not getting your point actually here. I am getting disagree but none actually puts counter argument.

Genuinely I really want to know your take on it.
I am seeing that you are saying whatever I said isn't true. But my point was not that. My point of was the nature of war changed due to compensation. Since comp will be coming to end soon, things gonna shake up as compensation items single handedly changes many things.

FUnnily, the compensation made top flight more competitive in the last few seasons, because you dont have to actually PAY for it anymore. Does that sting?
    What?

at a minimum... remove the purchase limits in the loyalty store. They are OK while the compensation is going on, but when the weekly messages end... inventories will dwindle quickly.

and while tinkering there: put back the L1 alliance revives. Whether its as part of the daily rotation again, or a permanent fixture for slightly higher cost.

If you really "need to make a buck"... add it as a feature to the sigil: people are already struggling to justify the math to keep paying for that.

There was a pretty good reason the top flight used to be so static, because alliances could not keep up with item use. Not anymore. That makes it tougher for you, which is why you might be quite salty.

What will be tougher for me? I’m confused what you’re talking about

This is excellent news, but they are that much closer to ending compensation.

Let's hope they give us a date when they launch it. It would be nightmare if the update drops suddenly and some of us are mid abyss/lol path.

honestly, i can be an alarmist and safely say that the current competitiveness in AW will significantly drop if the compensation pots are removed. This era of AW is the best and most competitive it has ever been.

Item wise I think it’ll be fine. Now it’s been a minute since we’ve had a smooth running war season, that’s more what I’m concerned about lol

As it is right now it won't be sustainable. You either spend a lot of runes to get average prizes in platinum, not worth it, or just play more casual and the competitiveness drops to the ground
