It's a very cheap, albeit acceptable, way of alternate in-house-testing. Nothing more. It was not even remotely ready for even a 'public beta release'. It is what it is.
If you don't know what open beta testing is, just say it.
Remember when Beta was not just 'let players/users test this for us' but rather, 'we think this will work and have had 1000's of man hrs testing ourselves? Please let us know of issues' It's not just Kabam. It's the norm now.
And I'm sure I'm violating forum rules, and this will get deleted, but reasonably sure most game companies do not own and operate their own servers. It just doesn't work that way anymore...and hasn't for a long time.
It's been the norm forever. There's a game called Star Citizen. It was released in 2014/15 as an Alpha, not even beta. It's 2022 and it's still in Alpha. You even have to buy at minimum at $45 pledge package just to play.
Open beta's aren't new. They've been a standard for a very long time. People like you bash the devs for any mistake they make like not "testing" a quest. Imagine if they left BGs up to the devs and CCP for testing and it released officially with the problems we had the past couple of days. Y'all would be tearing into Kabam for not testing etc.. you'd be begging for compensation and talking boycott.
People like you aren't ever happy with anything. What's even worse is you have zero clue to how anything works. You pretend to be experts but you're actually clueless.
Ha. 2014 was soooo long ago. I'm not bashing anyone. Simply stating the way things are now. Sorry if you don't get that. I don't want comp for anything. My comp packages get sold before they expire as it is. And what exactly am I clueless about? Never stated or implied I was an expert on anything. Were you maybe looking in the mirror when you posted this?
Everything you said comes across very matter of fact, as if you have inside information or the technical expertise to definitively say whether the mode was ready for beta.
“ It was not even remotely ready for even a 'public beta release'.”
What technical or professional expertise do you have to back this up? I’d argue that the facts fly in the face of what you said. Kabam have already fixed issues with the battlegrounds, wouldn’t you say that’s progress that wouldn’t have otherwise been made if they hadn’t tested a beta?
What use is a beta if not for testing it and seeing if it works?
Again, you seem to be joining the rather misguided collection of people that think issues showing up with Beta modes are a bad thing. These issues showing up right now are best possible scenario, excluding the fantasy option of there being 0 issues now or ever. Issues happening now mean that they are fixed and do not happen later when in game rewards are actually given for the mode.

That's the whole point of my reference to Star Citizen. You act like beta testing is a new thing and you said "its become the norm". I gave that example to show you that it isn't something new. Open beta's have been around for decades.
And you are complaining about Kabam using us as the beta testers like it's some new trick or they're just being lazy but there isn't any way for Kabam to safely test Battlegrounds enough to release it in a final form. They don't have enough different devices nor people to make that happen.
some of you guys need to stop whining we got a cool new game mode coming and they gave us a week to beta test it because they know the hype is killing us and some still find stuff to gripe about just enjoy the mode its not perfect but its damn fun so please stop being party poopers and just dont play the mode if it is so flawed the millions who will play wont miss you or your entitled opinions
Besides the obvious issues for battlegrounds, is anyone else having parry issues? I can parry in reg gameplay..but in battlegrounds, its pretty much non existent. Fix this as well please, as it makes battlegrounds completely unplayable for me.

Not in my professional or gaming lifetime, no I don't remember that. When it comes to software, what you're talking about are called Release Candidates. When it comes to services, what you're talking about are generally called soft launches (sometimes gamma testing although I rarely hear anyone but recent college graduates call it that).
Since forever, open beta testing of services, like games as a service, have had the dual role of secondary functional testing and stress testing the environment. They almost *always* fail in some way or another. Most commonly, for games with queues (more PC and console games than mobile games) you just can't get in at all or crash out immediately, which is very analogous to the problems battlegrounds had on day one.
But no, I've never heard of an open beta where the developers were pretty confident that everything was likely to go just fine. Not in any time period from 30 years ago to 30 minutes ago. Not recently, not in the recent past, not in the distant past.

Just to be clear, this is excluding thr masochism node right?

Controversial opinion: It's not a beta if I can't play it.
Like seriously, not even being able to play a match? What am I testing here? The champ selection screens?
Very frustrating
It's not a controversial opinion, it's just wrong.
Wrong how? If they announced a stress test, as such, would folks be upset? No. Wrong=you don't agree. That's not wrong, may just be you not understanding.

Here is the first link to an article from 2012 talking about beta testing. That was 10 years ago- https://www.informationweek.com/pdf_whitepapers/approved/1376402531_uTest_Whitepaper_Beyond_Beta_Testing.pdf
Maybe this will give you insight as to why Kabam is testing Battlegrounds this way.
