Sassy & relic not connecting

I've noticed that doing a medium ending combo into scarlet witch relic on sassy against #Small champs does not connect. Noticed it while fighting gamora and mantis but not red goblin.

Edit: Seems it is not exclusively against #small as I first thought. Fought another red goblin and this time it didn't connect.
