in today’s AW I face a strange opponent alliance… they explore 4 paths on the map but only 3 players involved…

UNDO Button.
And since you didn’t actually have defenders in place (to stop someone from doing undo and completely exploring both paths), they can cover them all.

Traveling, then UNDO, then taking a 2nd path, still counts as explore on the original Undid path.
