That's not why they are doing that. It was the bugged attack tactic after the update.

Next AW season will be delayed and AW itself will be taken down entirely for 2 weeks. To make up for some of the lack of rewards because of the game mode being taken down and because of the delay, they are roping extra rewards into the next BG season, but only for next season. You’re just getting two different pieces of info scrambled together.

My casual stroll through VT yielded me almost 300k points and I used elders marks the entire time and am still sitting on 9k elders marks. So someone with a lower win rate can still get those points at the cost of some more elders marks

True, but I think there's a persistent misunderstanding here. People are calculating how much time it would take to get all the way to the highest milestone. But that's not the proper comparison. The additional milestones are there, in a sense, for the players who were already getting near or to the top of the milestones already.
The idea is that with AW gone for a season, players have time to do other things. If they shift that time to Battlegrounds, they will get some level of rewards for that shifted time. For a player who wasn't doing BG at all, the extra time off of AW could be spent getting BG rewards they were not initially getting, which offsets to some degree the rewards they were missing out of from AW.
But players who were already doing BG cannot shift their time in that way, because they were already maximizing their BG rewards. For them, the extra milestones were added to offset the rewards they were losing from AW.
What you are supposed to consider is the time saved not doing AW and the rewards lost from not doing AW, and try to shift just that time to BG to try to compensate. The opportunity is there. Players are free to take that opportunity or not, but AW is itself just an opportunity to earn rewards. Not every player takes that opportunity. When they shut down AW they are temporarily eliminating that opportunity. They are replacing it with BG. But BG is *already there* as an alternative opportunity. The extra milestones at the top are there for players who were already taking advantage of that opportunity, and couldn't simply add BG to their routine.

Well, that “opportunity” is not equal to all players, as for the players who already scored the max score in BG get the “opportunity” without any extra effort. The alliances who don’t play AW will get the “opportunity” without deserving it. While the vast majority of the players will not benefit from the “opportunity” at all ( do remember that the vast majority of players don’t come to the forums, nor they score 400k points in a BG season) No, I don’t think that fair is getting what we used to get. Fair it would be if people got the same kind of rewards that they would normally get from their AW season performance.

From where I stand, the game did something reasonable to address AW being down for an extended period of time, and while I can explain why they did it, I don't have to prove it was the best of all possible options. If you want to understand why it was done, that's why it was done. If you don't care why it was done you just want to argue why you don't like it, that's an open ended conversation about what "fairness" means and without general consensus which doesn't exist, the developers' opinion wins by default.
If that’s why it was done, why didn’t they just explain it that way? If your context and explanation is accurate, why didn’t they just spend a few minutes including some of that info in the announcement? You’d still have people mad, but everyone defending it would have an official reason to point to at least.
