It went from facing people with my same roster just r4's and 7*'s to now rows of r5's overnight

This July 4th event is absolutely killer to f2p players like myself I don't have money to spend on this game so now I basically have to suffer my enjoyment to playing people in BG way above me only because they have money it's so stupid and not fun at all now

I don't even have one t6cc but if I had 100$ it wouldn't matter what I don't have, let alone if I had 400$......this games economy just dumps on f2p

From Bronze to Gold battlegrounds mostly matches players against players of similar roster strength. If you're in those tiers, spending shouldn't affect you much.

If you're in Platinum or higher, you're being matched against potentially everyone who reached that tier, because that's the intent of the competition. There, spending will potentially impact your experience, but that's just a part of the game. The people who progress faster will have advantages over those who don't.

Also, the vast overwhelming majority of players do not spend. The average mobile game conversion rate is on the order of 5%. Therefore, something along the lines of 95% of all MCOC players are thus completely free to play. So the only way you can get surrounded by nothing but big spenders is if you reach a level of competition that few other F2P players reach. And if so, of course you're going to have to compete against the players who are actually there.

Quick question - I have no idea how the roster metrics that feed the matchmaking are calculated.

If they are not calculated in real time during match search and are stored & refreshed with low frequency instead (f.e. days), what the OP is saying is possible (although still not common due to low conversion rates): during a very large sales week like this one, there might be a spike in lopsided matches below Plat if sales duration ≲ metrics refresh period. If the frequency is moderate (min/hours) it would be hardly noticeable.

    What would be your guess?
