Gold Boost Event

Not sure if I’ve missed a communication from Kabam, did they get away with doing 20% bonus on opening Uncollected/Golden crystals? I know it normally happens during anniversary week but I haven’t seen anything in a while. @Kabam Miike

They buffed the crystals themselves and did away with the occasional event where they were boosted

This. Instead of having occasional 20% gold boosts, they permanently boosted gold from most sources by 30%, which included the gold crystals, and did away with the off again on again gold boost events. This was to prevent players from holding crystals until gold boost events, constraining their gold for extended periods of time. There's now no advantage to holding gold crystals when you're low on gold.

There is still the odd tinfoil hat players that hoard the crystals because they think Kabam is going to surprise us with a gold boost event out of nowhere though

So there’s something wrong with holding on to the crystals you’ve earned? Personally, it’s a choice for me to hang on and open when I really need them. It was a bonus when they added 20% when opening gold.

Holding isn't the issue, the issue comes when people are holding for an event. Means you can't open the crystals whenever you need them, and you'd have to wait for this event to come around or miss out.

There is no problem with holding them until you need them. That’s what I do, in fact. At least, that’s what I do in theory; I haven’t opened a gold crystal in years.

The problem was people who got stuck in a gold trap. They were short of gold, so they felt they shouldn’t open gold crystals until the next boost event because they needed the extra gold, so they sat there unable to rank up anything because they had no gold because they were sitting on hundreds of gold crystals. Which is a perverse situation the devs decided to no longer incentivize.
