Alliance auto-demoted my leader status?

So I created an alliance when the game started in 2014. I always leave my 2 alts in there, while I take my main to various alliances throughout the last decade. Every now and then I'll take my main account back to the original alliance and run it for a while.

Both my alts were the only officers, and there are 20 members altogether, but only one currently active aside from my alts. I came back to it yesterday, and my alt that was the leader was demoted to member status, and my other alt remained officer. The leader is now the only player that was active the last 45 days, which is a 150k rated casual player....

This has never happened before, I've left that alliance dormant for 3 years at one point, and my leader status never changed once. Now it's only been 45 days, and my alliance that I created in 2014, is now completely out of my control...
I have a sentiment towards that alliance, it was my first and created when the game literally just came out. I really want it back, but the current 'leader' is ignoring my chat

Is this a new thing? Inactive leader will automatically get demoted?

Also, if any of the other people in the alliance are still active, that's why it happened (while not logging into your “leader” account over that ~60 days).

If nobody else was still active, it probably would not have demoted you.

If alliance is left OPEN, then you are subject to potentially other new players joining, and potentially being auto-promoted up if nobody else is active.

Note, I believe it is 30 days of inactivity for Leader, then I think they send Leader a message (linked email maybe, or device notification ???) and give you another 30 days, after which leader could be “Auto-Demoted” in favor of next ranking active member.

**you can ask that new leader if they will give leadership back to you, and maybe they will comply. Or if they are on very seldom as well, maybe they will be gone for 60 days sometime and you might be auto-promoted back if you are lucky.
