It's a sad day today. I threw the expiring cosmic iso and took cmm lvl 25. (She is on the list of champs who will never gets ranked up, along side a lot of champs including midccan, stary shade thown at civilian_rogers) I did it because there are Not many great options to do: A-force + Alpha-fight EOP carina objective. Just preparing for future, not doing it anytime soon. ....

(really don't want to go into a long-winded explanation of differences between “visible to you” vs “visible to others” and what each style goes off of. And “default champ profile pic” vs “custom” ones (or “self-selected actual champ profile” ones which is different from “default” champ and have a generic border unlike your “default's” actual Star border). Or have @DNA3000 come on and give an even longer-winded explanation.
(actually thought the first reply, by Desi, was correct, although maybe only understood if one first understood the rest of the whole explanation)
But to wrap things. It does seem odd that even on your own screens (in BG mode) you would see the profile of how your opponents would see you.
That part does seem odd.
My guess is it has something to do with how profile pictures work in general. They aren't "static" things attached to accounts, they are sort of "calculated" on the fly. That sort of makes sense, because in the beginning of time everyone had a dynamic profile picture that had to be calculated based on prestige/PI/whatever. Presets just sort of override that, but deep in the logic of the game, profile pics are something the game servers "figure out" and then send to our game clients to display to us.
Because of that, different game modes might have different ways to calculate what the profile picture should be, and either deliberately or accidentally two different game modes might show different profile pics for the same player under similar conditions, simply because displaying profile pictures isn't a straight forward thing, and with multiple ways to do it there isn't a locked in stone standard for it, and two different developers might do two different things in the game implementation.
The whole we see this, they see that thing might have been a completely organic unintended development once upon a time, and that ambiguity has continued to breed more ambiguity over time, and as never been a priority to standardize.

sorry, even that went on to be long-winded.
Well I am less confused than I was before I made this post, so yeah. We can say it's sorted out lol
