The issue is not the game mode, but rather how the defender placement is used. To ensure that you often win the wars you would need to put in the newest defender that was designed for it such as Arnim Zola, Yelena Belova and so on. This makes me feel locked out as I would want them for offensive, but often can’t as it’s used for offensive.
The new war map layout offer more variety and more thinking to pick just 1 defender. For example - a Yelena more annoying than Arnim

yes, this game is only about alliance war.
where else does winning and losing have as much importance?
EQ doesn't matter AQ doesn't matter SQ doesn't matter
it matters a lot in battlegrounds but you can play a million matches so who cares.
war is where all your spending, whaling, and grinding gets put to the test. every other game mode is a practice area where you can die a hundred times and then just play again. for a lot of players war is the only mode that has any meaning and to make it 1 fight per match makes doing everything else pointless.
without proper AW this game has no meaning. i get why casual players hate it, i hate it too sometimes but no mode comes close to how much value it brings to the game.

War is in 2nd priority, game is all about BGs now.
It was very calculated and you could truly plan your defense on each node and make sure you scored points for having different defenders. Once we had it figured out, it was very enjoyable. Only part I didn’t enjoy was not having the one specific counter to a champ on a node. Like Attuma on that regen node - nefaria was pretty much needed - who I literally have been unable to pull for the longest time
No. Attuma could be countered with all the heal block champs. I used warlock against him and solo'd pretty easily
Yeah I was just giving a general example. There were a few champ w node combinations that had very few specific counters. Other than that, loved it. Took a lot more thought and defense placement felt less lackluster

Don't get the question.. there are 10 fights available to choose from - you can take a different fight each war if you have the roster depth But yeah obviously they would need to change the nodes each season
Had 8 fights including a boss solo this current war. I find this more fulfilling than the 1 fight format.
Yeah, it can be fun.. but in this format players who are good at war are punished via item use (being good at war means you take more fights, thereby using more boosts and heals on average by default) and Kabam refuses to update the potion economy The planning is a lot too.. much bigger time commitment for everyone, but certainly leadership
It does seem like the majority of players prefer big thing. However the tier 1 players prefer the normal format.
Nah, not me.. we're t1 and we prefer the 10 fight map actually.. I like all AW (and have always liked the 50 fight map), but after trying both.. I actually like the 10 fight map
the previous war format is easy to fight but very hard to plan for team fighting. So i prefer the current one. I hope dev focus on inproving bug fixing, and other events. Pls let the war format as it is
