Simple question: how satisfied are you with the state of the game currently? Consider whatever metrics you deem
important—mechanics, inputs, forums, graphics, metas, issue resolution, communication, etc.

Game is not good and things are getting worse
I don't usually comment that much on here just to look at some threads or to confirm if the game is down, but here it goes.

Imo the game is in the worst state it's been since 2020. For example the side quest/new content having bugs every month iirc. hell, even old content like in necro, the nova fight, EoP, ect. Not to mention the champion bugs that take months to fix. Then the ai randomness sometimes they turtle up, and other times they are aggressive, or when you get hit they ALWAYS do a 5 hit combo whereas in the past it was random.

What bothers me the most is the constant monetization. like, I get it the game has to make money to continue, but this is too much. We've got the poolie/Spring cleaning event then the HoF/Omega days, the 3 month passes, J4 &CW and Banquet. I probably missed something. Also that, spending a bit doesn't get you anything worthwhile, like spending 30-50$ or in units 12k doesn't give you anything either, no you have to go all in to get something worthwhile.

And to me it seems like kabam/netmarble is getting greedier by the month while not bothering to put some of that money they earn into the game (playtesting, making sure that not everything/every new content comes out in a bugged state). The way the game is going has stopped me from spending since 2022, and i will continue to do so until the course changes, which we all know it won't.

The game has 426 active players on steam, Marvel Rivals has 102k and both are free games. Rivals made 130 million dollars it's first month by selling $20 skins. Kabam is selling $500 and $1000 dollar characters yet they makes no where near the same amount of money as Rivals. Do you want to know why Rivals is so successful? It's because there's NO P2W elements. Netease doesn't care if you spend thousands on skins or never buy one skin, they will never restrict any content or mode to it's player base. And guess what IT EVEN HAS A COMPETITIVE MODE where the only way to climb is through skill, mcoc would never do that too many spenders will complain about being stuck in bronze 😜.

Looking beyond money, Rivals gets 10x the views Mcoc does because people want to see the best mechanically skilled player compete against each other, not who spends the most. Console and PC player's aren't brainwashed like mobile players, they don't like P2W mechanics.

Replayability. Mcoc has zero replayability outside of incursions and arena. Once you complete every quest and every challenge, there is nothing to do except wait for the next Everest content or monthly update. It also doesn't help that everything costs energy so you are forced to grind away at arena if you want to refill it.

The only reason why Mcoc has lasted so long is because it has 0 competition. No other mobile fighting game comes close to mcoc in terms of smoothness and gameplay. The game is too old and suffers from an outdated monetization system to ever become big outside of mobile.

Unless they revise their monetization strategy it will continue

I feel the same. Been playing for 10 years. It used to be that spending here and there was fun, or could keep the gap between the whales a bit smaller. Now that gap increases significantly every few months. So not I'm not really spending anything, but also struggling to find something within the game that I enjoy. Mostly, it just feels a bit gross.

I have no problem with spenders having an advantage, but that has skyrocketed. But Kabam has seemingly found an offer model that they believe works (until it doesn't).

Pigs get fat. Hogs get slaughtered.

No. Rivals is popular because its a MOBA. MOBAS are highly popular thanks to league of legends.

Those are two completely different games with completely different budgets, ages, and demographics, and are not at all comparable.

Rivals is a hero shooter. Hero shooters were popularized by Overwatch which won Game of the Year.

I'd say the game has areas where it's better than before and areas where it's worse. Content and rewards are better than ever. F2P accounts can reach top progression and obtain the highest rank champs available for a decent effort, a far cry from the days you'd have to do Abyss for Thronebreaker. Plus, the story and endgame content have never been easier or more relatively rewarding (or at least, more fair. Wheel being an exception). 9.2 I think is the first time a brand new highest rank was given entirely for free just for playing story, for instance.

On the flipside, the bugs and horrid management with sales and events are worse than ever. Prices are at an all-time high, every update has a million bugs, and rarely do we get recompense for any of it. Paywalled champs are also appearing much more often than before, and I don't think it's a hot take to say that those suck, especially when they're meta. It really feels like the money they make off the game's big sales doesn't get reinvested into improving the game's stability.

So yeah, some good, some bad, as always. Though if we include the community it's definitely declining, cuz boy is this community bitter these days.

Rewards distribution and the multiple sales in a short span of time are killing the game for me, not to mention they keep making changes nobody asked for. Who even thought it would be a good idea to move part of endgame content rewards to normal content that's just dumb. Then there's also BGs metas being a genuine pain in the ass instead of being fun, and finally every single buged update. Definitely not in a good state, I haven't lost interest completely yet but it's certainly starting to go down.

You cannot compare a mobile game with a PC/console one. Completely different audience, different numbers, different monetization systems.
MCOC has a PC version now someone will say, but MCOC s gameplay in his genre for PC games, is a joke.

And also, MCOC cannot have a skins system by default, the whole story behind the game is based on champions from different eras/time periods/universes, that s why we have variations of them. Selling skins is like defying/ignoring completely the basic premise.

Why do you think Rivals has a higher budget? It's because Marvel and Netease know what attracts the greatest audience. They can spend millions on Rivals because they aren't focusing on a niche gacha mobile game. If Marvel made a free to play live service fighting game without gacha elements and released it on PC it would easily have a minimum of 10k players on steam.
