New store feature section “deals”

Were the new 8 hour “deals” supposed to be worth buying? Perfect example: right now 5* shards are available in the store. To buy all 30 it would take 16k plus units. So that’s $500+ just to get 3,000 5* shards. Most other “deals” have been similarly expensive. Were the costs done this way to make people only want to buy one or two of each “deal”?
