At the time Act 4 was released, it seemed pretty clear that Kabam was just padding some of those maps to artificially extend the content. I think Act 5 was a step in the right direction with shorter maps with harder nodes. I much prefer this to easier nodes and longer maps.
The Act 4 rewards are still very good, though admittedly not nearly as good as they were when they were first released. When act 4 was released, there were no 5* champs or alliance war. AQ and prestige were everything and most of the player base at the time didn't have any 5/50 champs. For many, the rewards for completing Act 4 were the only way to possibly take a champ to 5/50. As such, the landscape of the game has changed, even for newer players. A t4cc crystal isn't worth nearly as much today as it was back when Act 4 was released. For that reason, I wouldn't mind if they permanently reduced the energy requirements in Act 4 from 3 to 2 per tile just to save newer players the tedium.
Just be glad they nerfed some of the bosses in Act 4 since the "good ol' days". Juggernaut and Venom used to be the stuff of nightmares.
Reduced Energy Cost for Act 4: Energy requirements for all of Act 4 Quests will be temporarily dropped from 3 to 2 energy per step! This is a great opportunity to Level Up, Explore, earn rewards, and take this major step towards become one of The Uncollected (by completing Act 5 Chapter 2 and being Level 40+) if you haven’t already achieved that goal!
I'm on Act 4 now, at level 45 with like 60 something energy total, it takes all my energy to explore 1 quest. An about 6-7 hours total for a full energy refill!!

I definitely agree making the maps smaller in size but keep the same difficulty.

It takes alot of refills to clear.
