For all the things this game does wrong, resource balance is something they do very well. There's a pretty good balance between the stuff you can earn through gameplay, the stuff you can earn by spending money, and the stuff you basically get for free just for playing at all (i.e. calendar rewards). For example, as long as the game continues to make money while certain Youtubers keep grading the offers with Ds and Fs, I think the balance between stuff you can buy and stuff you can earn is likely weighted properly - in the direction of gameplay.
Spending cash on Cavs is an incredibly inefficient way to make progress in the game. It works out to something on the order of $50 per 5* champ on average. In terms of actual cash being spent on Cavs, there's no way those are "flooding" the game: it is a tiny percentage of whales making relatively small amounts of progress for a very large amount of cash, which is precisely how an F2P monetization should work. The more those guys spend on relatively little, the less everyone else has to spend to keep the game going.
Cav crystals are generally good for the game. Players grinding the game for units have an interesting option to spend those units on, while the whales have something to spend a lot of cash on that adds as little extra resources to the game as possible. Few of those Cavs turn into top-tier significant champions, and for whales spending a lot of cash on them most of those turn essentially into signature stones. If hundreds of whales want to spend thousands of dollars getting a lot of 3* and 4* champs, a bunch of signature levels, and occasionally the lucky 5* or 6* champ, I'm totally cool with that.
Cavs have broken this game.
