Having said that, if you indeed don't pay kabam anything, why do they owe you a reward? Genuine question.
Just because you're not paying with cash doesn't mean you aren't paying. Time is an equally valuable thing and should be compensated as well. By your logic you're not spending any money to complete monthly EQ why should Kabam give any rewards

Kabam don't owe you a thing. You play this game for enjoyment (I hope). The rng system is the one that allows ftp like you to enjoy the game without paying.
The alternative is a subscription model, which you'd presumably not pay? No one ftp should be complaining about the rng rewards in this game, because it is a system that is literally allowing people to play this game, for fun, free of charge.
If you feel like the time that you sink into this game is worth a reward from kabam, then I strongly and unequivocally suggest you expend similar effort into study or work, so that your time is better utilised on enriching your life beyond the scope of this game.
