Can you just remove this new event from the game? It’s a huge slap in the face and a constant reminder of the bare minimum approach. What level of gamer is the event even designed for, 10 months to form a 5*? Cmon, the rewards for this event should be x5 to be even worthwhile to introduce to the game.
I would compare it to you adding an event quest difficulty below beginner, why?

Not all are end game players
You place 60 defenders for the season doesn’t matter what kind and boom you basically get free stuff.
You take out a few defenders with your attackers.
Boom more free stuff.
Or shoot you use some energy along the way, BOOM free stuff.
Why complain? The only compliant I’d have is it started 1 war late but again, who cares. It’s free stuff to basically do almost NOtHING out of the ordinary.

I'm low on iso after july4, it takes so much to level up a 6star rank 3 champion...
I’m not excited about them but it’s still free stuff and in the long run it adds up...

That’s ok and I’ll take whatever but it’s not really enticing at all.
Yet, I see the ethical dilemma of such incentives which in turn favour those leechers/strategic free riders. And the issue would be obvious in those semi retire or so-called “laid back but active” war alliance.
Placing defenders without rank incentive, then leechers place all 4* champs only.
Defeat enemy without restriction on how many champ you use, then leechers die all in one champ.
Use revives/potions? No problem, die all and clean stash items.
End point, some marginal war win become easy defeat due such incentives.
