Gladiator hulk is fun, ghost isn’t fun, I don’t like ghost. There is no character I ranked up based on meta. It was all for fun, eventually one of them wasn’t fun.
Masacre I’ve just always liked. (Even pre buff) And it turns out nova is actually kinda decent. (If I’m being honest, just ranked him up for AW defense)
I see a lot of people ranking up for Cav, why waste precious resources for an event that can change any time and your champs become irrelevant for Cav and it happened last month.
Because the nodes come back. In a couple months each set of nodes will come back and all those rank ups will be worth it again.

I did not rank him up for eq, he is fun to use and I always wanted him as a champ. He is a bruiser when ramped up, especially awakened.
