War Schedule

I have never understood why Kabam don’t make war attack Monday Wednesday and Friday and then make maintenance Sunday at 11pm during the arena hardly anyone really cares about (most only do it because it’s the only thing going on at the time). Outside of AQ, it would basically give us a nice break from the game, which can get quite grueling during the war season, and most of the weekend free. Sunday’s are normally only placement phase anyway, so the people who want to play every day still have the arena to do and all it would really change is war attack being on Wednesday and Thursday rather than on Saturdays and Sundays. The end of the war week would finish early on Saturday and allow us to have some sort of weekend and a nice Sunday break, while also putting maintenance during something much fewer people care than featured arena.

This makes a lot of sense. Maintenance can stay Tuesday, it’s still only an hour or two of placement phase. This map has gotten very stale very quickly, it is boring. rotating old maps and updating nodes like can clearly be done in incursion every season or two seems like a great solution to not overworking kabam and keeping war fresh !!

How does updating the map have anything to do with the AW attack/placement phase?

And while we are at it, besides giving us our weekends back during the war season, the war map and globals should be updated more frequently. The map should get overhauled at least once every 4 seasons. I know making an entirely new map layout is probably a lot of work, but how about just swapping the nodes out on a rotating basis? Or at least more interesting/interactive globals. This current war map was stale almost right after its release due to the similarity of so many of the nodes and the lack of imagination, it needs an update.

The old map right before this current one was always more fun. You don’t even have to come up with a new map and nodes every 4 seasons, you could simply rotate every season to one of the four old map layouts and simply change the buffs and nodes every season or every other season to keep things interesting. War is one of the only actually competitive aspects of this game and one of the few modes many players still find interesting, but a lot of players are losing interest very quickly with this current map.

Personally, war is the only reason I have continued playing the game as long as I have. I know it’s not the same for everyone and everybody is different, but for the people that do play for war (and there are a lot of them), it needs to be kept interesting. Currently it is exceptionally boring and becoming more and more like AQ by the day, and we don’t need two of game modes feeling the same way to play. Quite simply, it needs a change and the changes listed above wouldn’t even be overly burdensome or even all that difficult for the developers to implement and would have a huge impact on keeping war fresh, competitive and interesting.

Because I brought this up as well above, clearly. If you’re in plat 3 or below tier 2 this conversation doesn’t have to concern you. War clearly isn’t that important to you to begin with @Demonzfyre. I specifically said, while we’re on the topic of war...right after my initial comment.

The point remains, why does the most labor intensive game mode make sense for us to have on weekends as well? The way it’s currently scheduled places the majority of the weekend within the war attack phase, which doesn’t make sense. If you don’t care about war or do boss rush @Demonzfyre then when it’s scheduled doesn’t matter to you at all, same would you for any alliance that approaches war that way.

In tier 1, when your goal is first place, as it is in my alliance, Kenob, and the same for any master alliance, planning, moving strategically and at similar times for boosts purposes, and having the time and space to actually focus on the fight matters quite a bit, in which case the majority falling on the weekend is the worst setup there can be.

So logically, you either care enough about war to care to plan, strategize and fight at proper times, in which case you care about scheduling or you don’t care enough about war to care about those things and thereby where it falls in the week. If you’re in the latter group, this discussion really doesn’t concern you, since when war takes place clearly doesn’t matter all that much to you.

I literally told you that we plan our paths and assign minis. you don't have to move together any more because there aren't any link nodes except the boss island. We take war seriously and we were competing for Plat 1 last season and spent most of the season in Tier 2.

Yes, you are in attack phase for part of Saturday and part of Sunday. But with communication, I fully believe a masters alliances is done with war well before attack phase ends. Even when we were in Tier 2, We were finishing wars with hours left. Also, you aren't spending every waking minute in war either. At most, you're going to login 2-4 times to clear all the lanes. You aren't spending 24 hrs in the game doing attack phase. I know for a fact that's not the case because I know people in the high tiers.

I get it, you don't want to do war on the weekends. You don't have to keep trying to portray being in a Tier 1 alliance like you are sacrificing you're life away when war is on. You want the weekends free to do stuff. Cool. That's all you need to say. Nothing else you have said really has any impact on what day war is on. Let me guess, you're going to ask for AQ to be Monday-Friday as well right?

i mean some people might be way busier on weekdays with work, then they are on weekend when they're off work, not everyone is the same.....

No, because AQ actually has an in game reason for it to be when it is, or as you put it “within the flow of the game,” that is, it’s on an 8 day rotation and doesn’t involve nearly the time commitment or coordination that war does. It has nothing at all to do with links, lollll, I don’t even know why you continue bringing up that point, any member in any tier 1 alliance could fight through any of those links once they removed the attack and health boosts many seasons ago. Instead, it has to do with the energy requirements of the current map and the ability to get to multiple fights on the same boosts or even get to all your section 2 fights before you have to go to sleep, hence waiting on other people and their schedules.

Nothing makes sense for everyone. This discussion has come up before, and every time it has come up in the past people think that the majority of players all look at this similarly, and discover that's not true. Because the game is played globally, what's morning for you is night for others, and even what's Sunday for you is Monday for others. Some people would like to keep weekends free, some people would prefer to mostly play on weekends. There is no such thing as the perfect time to do anything, so absent that the logical thing to do is to maintain the schedule people have spent years working around until an overwhelmingly strong reason to change it materializes.

That's understandable, but that has more to do with how the attack phase aligns with your sleep schedule than on what day it happens on. And there's no reason to believe that people's schedules get tighter on weekends: if anything it is just as likely or more likely that those schedules are more flexible on weekends than weekdays. I would say it is a safe bet that a majority of the players of this game either work or go to school during the week and are busier during the week than on the weekends. Of course, lots of people probably also have full weekends, but it is unlikely the majority of players are more busy or have tighter schedules on weekends.

We just had a discussion like this a few months ago where some people suggested delaying a war season until after the end of year holidays, or at least Christmas. There wasn't even clear consensus on whether that was a good idea or not. It seemed so obvious to the people who wanted this to happen and it seemed almost inconceivable to most of them that anyone could object. But I think the majority opinion was that the season should be left alone.

I fully understand some people would prefer weekdays to weekends, but the large majority would prefer more time on weekends to not be beholden to a mobile game. I also have had worked with people from across every time zone in the world, I also did the analysis above; the present setup takes up the largest portion of the weekend for the largest percentage of players possible, it’s just different times of the weekend for the timezones on the other side of the world.

This discussion concerns war focused alliances, as alliances that aren’t war focused would view war as I view aq, it is what it is and you do it when you can, when you want and it doesn’t take up much time. As for war focused alliances, I can guarantee the majority would prefer to have war occur only on Saturday morning and not Saturday into Sunday or early Sunday morning into Monday (the first day of the normal work week) for those on the other side of the globe. The likes and dislikes on this post show it and the chats on Line app with 300 members from master alliances would have a majority share the same opinion.

@DNA3000 I specifically said maintenance could remain on Tuesday with no issue to placement phase, since I realized a weekend wouldn’t make much sense for them either.

I'm actually not sure what your position on this is, because you keep flipping back and forth. First you said:

The end of the war week would finish early on Saturday and allow us to have some sort of weekend and a nice Sunday break, while also putting maintenance during something much fewer people care than featured arena.

    and then you said:

Yeah that didn’t occur to me, all of the officers in every war focused alliance get to work all weekend but Kabam can’t ;) , but yes maintenance could definitely stay on Tuesdays, it’s only an hour or two worth of war placement phase which wouldn’t be an issue.

but then you immediately reversed yourself and said:

Also, if kabam is working from home and working weekends that’s even more support for my suggestion that maintenance take place Sunday night when no arena is ongoing with a war schedule change.

So I'm not sure if you're advocating for this or not.

For the record, while some people might be doing work on the weekends, for the most part most of Kabam takes the weekends off.

What makes match making on Tuesday problematic if it is also a scheduled maintenance day is that if people are sleeping eight hours a day and the placement phase can last up to four hours (and sometimes more when it gets glitchy) and extended maintenance has been known to last upwards of four hours, that makes the worst case scenario for people placing defenders far worse on Tuesday than any other day. And if the maintenance done during the downtime actually messes with the active placement phase going on at the time, the odds are good it will be impossible to fix before the attack phases kick off on Wednesday.

There is no practical way to avoid this potential problem for AQ, but there is a way to avoid it for AW. And breaking one day of AQ is far less problematic than breaking one day of AW during seasons.

How about stop derailing the discussion so more people can comment here and maybe you’d get it. The portion about the schedule was a small portion of my first and second post and the entirety of this thread got derailed by two people focusing on trivial details that are inconsequential to the overall theme which is that war needs an update, to scheduling, to nodes and to it’s overall layout. The majority of the playerbase at the higher tiers of alliance wars are currently outrageously unhappy with the state of it. They dislike this map, the nodes, the globals, how shale it’s gotten, how boring it is and having zero scheduling updates in TWENTY FIVE SEASONS.

I don’t care if it’s Monday Wednesday Friday attack phase, a rotation of on and off weekends to make everyone happy, even the fools who prefer doing wars the majority of their weekend or even changing it to two wars a week over 5 weeks. The point is the schedule and layout of alliance war needs an update.

Utilizing a rotation of old map layout designs with the same 100/200/300% boosts while changing the nodes every season or two, they could even utilize the nodes in incursions, in order to make it easier on the developers to keep war fresh while they design an entirely new map layout every 7-10 seasons would be one great way to do it. A schedule change or bracket system would be another interesting implementation to liven it up and ease the burden on the grueling schedule at the top end of alliance war where you see one top alliance after another and only get a one day break from Tuesday to Wednesday while arena and aq are currently ongoing at the same time. Quite frankly, it’s ridiculous any any top 20 alliance would say the same thing.

Instead, you’ve chosen to derail the post of the irrelevant idea of maintenance being on Sunday, which I had already said doesn’t matter, it could easily be Tuesday during placement and the proportion of people who would and wouldn’t want a schedule change, when that’s exactly the purpose of this post, to gauge interest level and maybe give kabam a new idea to at least talk to their ccp about or test.

I’m flipping back and forth because I don’t really care when maintenance actually occurs, it just makes more logical sense for it to be Sunday, but if that’s not feasible for a company like Kabam even though certain Fortune 500s do it, then it being Tuesday wouldn’t impact matchmaking whatsoever considering all matches would be found 5 hours before maintenance even began, even with maintenance running 3-4 hours it would leave 15-16 hours for members to place their defense.

I currently see Line IDs and IGNs supporting my two original positions from 9 of the top 20 alliances in war. Three of which are officers, Four including me. This could have been a productive thread where the ideas concerning changing only the top tiers of alliances war could have morphed, built on each other and come to some type of pretty reasonable and logical solution to a problem every single top alliance is seeing at the moment.

Instead, it got entirely derailed by unproductive and (currently) irrelevant arguments over trivial and obtuse details between two guys from where exactly? P3? Stone 1?

Me commenting doesn't prevent anyone else from commenting. The title of the thread is "War Schedule" so me talking to you about the war schedule is not derailing anything. So it's not that small of a portion of what you wrote.

You are pandering here on the forums to people who are no where near where Kenob is in terms of war. You said yourself that anyone below tier 2 has no business commenting. Guess what? Everyone who's agreed with you so far is most likely no where near tier 2/1. Danielmath is tier 2 and above and he disagrees with you. You talk about "the majority of high tier wars" is some percentage of 2400 people since plat 1 and above.is only 80 alliances. That's not very many people at all and I find it really hard to believe you know the thoughts of that many people period. So let's not pretend you're here to get any valuable comments because those opinions won't matter based off your very words.

I'm perfectly happy if they update war more often. I wouldn't mind different nodes or a new map layout. I'm all for that but do you know why the schedule is the way it has been for 25 seasons? Because it works. If it didn't, they would have changed it ages ago. It works for what Kabam needs it to work for the game mode. Like DNA said, there's zero chance any changes in schedule will work because someone will always be inconvenienced. I don't want Mon-Fri because those are days that I work for the most part and my schedule covers more than half of the attack phase.

It's super clear where your head is. You've repeatedly said that you want free time on the weekends and all you reference is high tier alliances. This idea isn't for the masses, it's to appease the people who think they're better than everyone else because thier at the top.

Also keep in mind YOU suggested maintenance be on Sundays. Not me. You typed those words and clicked post comment. I simply pointed out it wasn't a good idea. You flopped more in this thread than Lebron James and James Harden has their entire NBA career. You can't handle a simple back and forth because of your superiority complex. If I wanted to derail this thread, I would have done so long ago. If you aren't ready for opposing opinions, don't post on a public forums. Keep it to your high tier wars chats in the Line app.

I can tell you the rule about scheduled maintenance, and I can explain to you why the vast overwhelming majority of ops people understand it to be true, but if you still think it is "logical" to do regular maintenance on Sunday, as long as I don't have to work in your network it is not my job to convince you of something the industry takes for granted. But if you can name a Fortune 500 company that schedules regular IT maintenance downtime windows on weekends, please do. That would be an interesting thing to discuss with whomever decided to do that.

As I said (and you seem to have completely ignored) during the 24 hour period that comprises the "defense" phase match making can take up to four hours (and sometimes longer). Regular maintenance typically takes two hours but can take up to four at times (it has actually been longer a couple times in the past). Depending on where you are timezone wise and sleep schedule wise you could be asleep for eight hours of that period of time. That leaves eight hours for actual defense placement assuming everything goes perfectly, because 24-4-4-8=8.

If something goes wrong that window can close rapidly, and people are not continuously available to place defenders. This is a risk that I would not take and would recommend to the devs not to take, if I even had to make that recommendation. I'm pretty sure they do not need to be told this.

P3? Stone 1?

Jesus the entitlement is strong with you. Blah blah blah blah I'm in a top alliance so my opinions and requests matter more than everyone else's blah blah blah blah. Good God. Someone get this guy a tissue.

I’m in Iso8a and I fully agree. The top tiers in alliance wars are currently broken. It is the same alliances seeing each other day in and day out and nobody likes weekend wars at all, because quite simply it’s too time consuming and too stressful to be done on a weekend, it is like a second job, especially considering the fact that war is straight up boring and stale right now with the same old map and same similar boring nodes. It’s becoming more and more like AQ with more stress and ten times more planning. This absolutely could have been a productive thread until it was entirely derailed my nonsense

The question of where maintenance falls is relevant because the idea of scheduling war placement on a maintenance window day is relevant, because I would think anyone who has been doing competitive war seasons for a while would have lived through at least a couple cases where maintenance windows have gone amok.

However, if you feel this is a subject that only master level alliance officers can express a valid opinion on, and as I am not a master tier alliance war officer, I will instead direct my position on the idea of rescheduling war cycles directly to the developers, if this idea ever gets far enough for them to consider it in the first place.

Although I'm not sure why I'm complaining really: placing war days directly onto maintenance days is exactly the kind of chaotic ridiculousness that I think the game mode deserves, especially if the people who depend on the game mode itself are begging for it directly.

I never once said nobody below tier 2 had no business commenting on it. I said individuals who aren’t war focused don’t, because the scheduling isn’t that big of a deal if you aren’t focused on war. There are alliances up and down the spectrum of tiers that are war focused in their own little circles, that has nothing to do with tier. That’s what you took it to mean.

You are both now quite literally putting words in my mouth and misquoting.

I didn’t flip flop on the maintenance schedule outside changing my opinion the first time that it could remain on Tuesdays. Specifically, the three posts in a row on the subject:

Yeah that didn’t occur to me, all of the officers in every war focused alliance get to work all weekend but Kabam can’t ;) , but yes maintenance could definitely stay on Tuesdays, it’s only an hour or two worth of war placement phase which wouldn’t be an issue. Game has gone down many times for emergency maintenance during placement phase with no issues.

That furthers my original point though, kabam isn’t doing this schedule to avoid work on weekends, but officers have to put in 2-5 hours every Saturday depending on your level and how many questions you have to answer during war

Also like I said maintenance doesn’t need to change times, that was just an added suggestion because nothing is really going on Sunday besides the dumb arena. In terms of war, maintenance can stay the same time. My point is kabam doesn’t like working weekends but has war scheduled so that weekend work is pretty much maxed out for officers and war up time is the highest it can be on weekends regardless of timezone.

I also care way more about the map changing to keep it fun and interesting, maybe then it won’t feel so much like work on weekends.

There is no entitlement outside of seeing two unbelievably rude individuals trying to derail a discussion that the majority has voice their opinion in favor of over absolutely irrelevant bs. No wonder nothing every gets resolved and worked out in this community when there are always people like you two and coathanger to derail any topic they don’t see fit as deserving a conversation over.

The original post was about the war schedule and the staleness of alliance war in general, so yes if you’re not in a war focused alliance it DOESN’T pertain to you. If war is not your top priority it does not have to do with you. AQ is for rewards only for me, it is a chore, if some AQ focused alliances suggested changing that to be every 7 days I wouldn’t give it a second look. Your intentional attempt to derail the conversation over something I had already agreed I didn’t care about, and agreed multiple times could remain on Tuesday, is frankly ridiculous.

Let the discussion continue on the war schedule or the alliance map change, enough of the bs about maintenance. You’ve voiced your opinions, how about you give the actual majority a shot to be heard.

Cant stand the dudes who literally just troll this forum more than they actually play the game for the purpose of being contrarian and getting threads shut down. Then you have the nerve to call me entitled? As you’re crying about kabam’s maintenance schedule and the actual majority not wanting weekday wars? When you and one other person are the only people who’ve actually even said that on this thread? How about you simply be quiet and let the other people speak, regardless of who or where they are, which would allow me to stop responding to your nonsense.

This most decidedly is not a goddamn 1% issue, it’s an entire game issue, plodding bull and soul reaper are in gold 1 alliances. How about you check yourselves and actually let an intelligent discussion take place. I didn’t criticize the other dude who mentioned maybe some people are busy with their work schedules, I criticized you two because you’re the ones flaming irrelevant points of conversation when this discussion is about how most people currently view the war schedule and what could be changed about war to make it better, where exactly
    Is your contribution to that?

No you’d rather just criticize a forum posters points than make actual suggestions that might improve the state of the game, which is why war is going the way it’s going.

Ooof these aren't going to age well for you......

Because I brought this up as well above, clearly. If you’re in plat 3 or below tier 2 this conversation doesn’t have to concern you.

The majority of the playerbase at the higher tiers of alliance wars are currently outrageously unhappy with the state of it. They dislike this map, the nodes, the globals, how shale it’s gotten, how boring it is and having zero scheduling updates in TWENTY FIVE SEASONS.

ease the burden on the grueling schedule at the top end of alliance war where you see one top alliance after another and only get a one day break from Tuesday to Wednesday while arena and aq are currently ongoing at the same time. Quite frankly, it’s ridiculous any any top 20 alliance would say the same thing.

I currently see Line IDs and IGNs supporting my two original positions from 9 of the top 20 alliances in war. Three of which are officers, Four including me. I mean, it's just awkward now. You realize everything you said is set in stone right? Just because you say something new doesn't mean everything else you posted is irrelevant.

What does that have to do with the original post? That is the position I am currently in. How are you not comprehending the difference. Just because I and the other top 20 alliances are in that position does not also mean others aren’t as well, my point was I can only speak from the position from which I sit. That is the entire point of the forum post; to see how other people at other levels view it. Which goes directly to my point of the two gold 1 players in support of what I said.

Some old story line, people disagree so they are guilty of “derailing” a thread. Hey guy, a discussion represents/includes all view points. Your attempt at no platforming anyone with a contrary view to your own doesn’t help you one bit.

I literally never claimed I represented the majority though; that’s exactly where you’re twisting my words; I said I know how the majority of the tier 1 players feel. The point of the forum post is to see how everyone else does. You’re once again twisting my words and making this mutually exclusive when it most decidedly is not

You don't know what the actual MAJORITY is. You're head is in tier 1 clouds and you can't see out of it. You aren't the majority, you are the minority. If these points we are "flaming" are irrelevant, why even make them in the first place?

I've never seen anyone who can't handle some criticism like you. You really can't seem to handle someone disagreeing with you. If you were concerned about the "entire game" you wouldn't keep lauding the fact that you're in high tier every chance you get. Just because you're in a top alliance doesn't mean the rest of us have to bend to your will. There will be people who disagree with you.

Again, the top 20 alliances are the majority. Stop saying that. It's only 600 people. There are 10's of millions of people that play this game and hundreds of thousands that participate in war. You nor the top 20 alliances are the majority.
