I recently got him as a 4* and I just want to know if he should be r5 worthy or awakening gem worthy.

Has horrible damage without face me up, terrible prestige, but has a unique ability that no other champ in game does in face me, that counters tons of annoying passive damage in the game.

Fantastic champ to have in your back pocket but very few people use him as a daily driver

Very solid champ, depending on your roster, he can be an r5 candidate

Pro: Anyone with passive Damage Over Time put him into "Face Me!" mode which means he regens 70% of ALL DAMAGE dealt as well getting an offensive boost - that means if you're getting that Limbo damage from Magik and she nails you with a 5-hit combo, you're going to regen 70% of that damage back, not just the DoT damage. Dormammu and Mephisto also have passive DoT with their sig abilities; also Star Burst nodes (but NOT Bane, of course...) but also other specifically Passive DoTs like the side-quests we had for Doom & Mr Fantastic where the boss node inflicted a passive Shock (designed to let Doom Stun-Slap you all the live long day) and Gulk's Face Me triggered on that as well. It's a very specific ability, but hot damn is it powerful when it's in play.

Further to all of that he has an easily replaceable Heal Block with his L1 so he's a good option for the likes of Mr Sinister, he's Poison Immune which is always handy, he's got pretty solid HP, and he doesn't need to be awakened which is always nice. His SMASH! ability is really more bolstering for him on defence but can be utilised on offence as well, especially with synergies.

Con: When you're not in Face Me! Mode, he doesn't hit very hard at all so fights with him do tend to take a bit longer. His L2 is fairly strong but the power lock (forgot the proper term) doesn't last long, maybe enough for a single combo or so, and his stuns aren't guaranteed.

I still use Gulk as part of a common AW Offence team with Corvus and Proxima - Corvus does the lion's share, sure, with Proxima predominately there for True Strike synergy but she's solid as well, and Gulk can handle the fights Corvus cannot - particularly mystics and Sinister, plus he has an attack synergy with Proxima for added benefit.

I tried him out and most of your beliefs are correct. However Proxima does not give out a good attack benefit for Ghulk.
Proxima is there for the synergy with corvus. She has no benefit to Gulk at all

Not many cons he’s a great champ

I I’m so sorry I’m thinking of the MCOC reddit right now but let me say
Pros:Very Good for passive damage fights
Decent Regen and Fury when awakened
Pretty tanky as well also pretty fun to play
Cons:Outside of passive damage fights he isn’t the best
    Overall I think he’s a very solid 8/10 probably a 8.5/10 good champ

he's a really good interceptor due to the way he fights. .

Funny thing, Annihilus normally wrecks me but with Gulk I don't seem to have trouble.

Gladiator Hulk activates the Infinity Enemies Synergy on Proxima, giving the whole team a 7% Attack increase. It's not much, and it's definitely not the purpose of the combination, but it's there.

    Cons:

Outside of "face me" and the fury from his awakend ability his damage is not that great.

I would use him as specialist like Void or Symbiod Supreme

As someone with a 4 star Gulk, I personally don’t find him needing the awakened ability. It’s helpful, yes, but I’ve never needed it. One of my problems with him is Face Me only activates on certain nodes like No Retreat, and doesn’t activate on something like Brute Force.

His playstyle makes him a really good interceptor, which is good for say Annihilus or any champ that you need to intercept. He’s a Hulk, so he’s also poison immune.

Overall, he’s very solid, and you have a good pull here.

Pros: Good for any degen nodes since he'll reduce the amount of damage it does, has good damage potential, poison immune

Cons: not sure honestly, he's a solid champ

To be clear, Hulk Ragnarok is no better on Degeneration nodes than most other champs. If you find a fight with a Degeneration node on it, Face Me won't trigger. It's passive damage over time for sure, but it won't trigger. Go figure. Kabam logic.

However, it will trigger for Starburst nodes as well as some of the most pesky damage sources in the game: EMP modification (6.2 Sinister boss), Domino's Critical Failure, No Retreat nodes, Limbo, Soul Leech (Dormammu), Mephisto's incinerate, etc.

He has some niche uses, but when you come across these nodes, you'll be VERY happy you have him.

I remember using a 5/50 Gulk in Variant 1 for a few paths where Face Me triggered. Even as a 4*, he was excellent. He'd finish the fights with very little health lost.

Sorry but i dont agree, he's my first r5 champion and i dont regret it, almost a staple in every quest for me.

He is an awesome champ, hits hard poison immune and his face me is really useful for passive DOT like starburst, con is he is not really a day to day champ to use.

The General Consensus for Gulk is that he should be 1 rank lower than your best champs based on his niche but valuable uses. So make your judgement based on that. As a 4 star I probably wouldn't do it because you'll have just as easy as a time with any rank 4 5 star and the rank up resources used on that other character will still have their value much later on in the contest. If you're really in a pickle that Gulk will get you out of, then go ahead and do it because he's a fairly solid character.

A general piece of advise that helped me tho is to just see how much content u can clear without spending t4cc on 4* champions. I dont have a single r5 4* because i chose to work on 5* instead. Ofc i did have fairly decent luck on
  • PantherusNZPantherusNZ Member Posts: 2,199 ★★★★★

For me it’s 6%. Must be different tiers huh?

Yes, 7% is for the 5* Proxima.
