What is Considered Grindy?

DrZolaDrZola Member Posts: 9,124 ★★★★★
Evaluating the new objectives and Bewhiskered and Worlds End solo events….

…would you consider these grindy? One event requires 500 arena fights, the other 200 fights with a bewhiskered champ. Objectives require a mish-mash of fights with the 3* Eternals champs and some require finishing the SQ lanes (which in turn require players to bring the 3* Eternals as a ride along).

I’m curious what the forums community thinks here.

I don’t think they’re that grindy because we have the whole month to complete them

When I gotta bust out the music and the soda with insane amounts of motivation.
And after two hours, I am doing the exact same thing I was doing to start.
Aka, every time I play the arena.

Not really grindy to me, but I play everyday so...there's that.

Auto fight normal easy 50 fights

You can’t think that’s all we have to do…

I’m under the “do as much content in 2 days as possible then coast the rest of the month” type of player. So it’s a grind fest for me atm. Also adding in arenas that I don’t usually do 😫

If I didn’t normally do arenas I’d say it’s a grind. But I do, so I’m not bothered.

For me, something is a grind when it’s excessively repetitive.
Arena is a grind by nature, and 200 fights with a bewhiskered champ is probably something I’ll end up doing with autoplay.

The arena one seems like a grind, but I'm just going to go for the 4* champs from the arena and I'll probably get the objectives done that I want to, and the bewhiskered one is easy because you can just autofight the normal difficulty on the side quest with a bewhiskered champ, and the only cost is time there. Even then, you can do something else while the game does the grinding for you.

Meh. It's a good opportunity to replenish some Gold and Units.

Not grindy at all, September and October objectives were like a walk in the park.
I can even do this month's objectives during my nap time.

It depends. For players who play daily they don't seem grindy at all. For players who only play very intermittently and try to get as much done in just a few days of concentrated play, they probably seem like very high hurdles.

It is kind of a difficult question to answer because it is not like there's an "average" answer. There are no average players it would apply to. I would describe them as being targeted at high engagement players - in terms of trying to complete them all. Casual players that don't *need* to complete everything are also fine with objectives they can't fully complete, because they don't complete everything anyway - in fact content that can't be completed can be a positive for those players, because from their perspective they always get rewarded. If they play two hours they get rewarded, if they play six hours they get rewarded more. Completists in a sense stop getting rewards past a certain point.

For players that want to be completists but struggle to do so, this kind of thing is probably not the best.
Yeah absolutely, I just meant personally these are not super grindy especially compared to the last few months. I do play everyday and some of my favorite champs happen to rock some wonderful facial hair so that will be very easy for me. I don’t play arena but I don’t mind doing a little a day for a month so overall it’s not too bad.

I think it’s grindy in the sense it’s going to force me to do content I wouldn’t otherwise do. Given we only have 3 stars to complete the Ikaris/Sersi objectives, I’m going to have to do normal EQ which I don’t normally bother with. Or grind for a 4 star version of them when their arena comes around.

grindy is being forced to do content that requires too much time for the chance at 3* champs in a crystal lol, thats not including the monthly content that still needs to be run. and if you do aq/aw as well it just doesnt add up time wise.
just thinking of doing 500 fights makes me want to quit the game, who finds that kind of repetitiveness fun? i guess you can argue the repetitive game bugs seem somewhat addictive xD, i guess this event favors the arena peeps who already invest their personal time for the free units and BC BUT that is such a small amount of people of the community.

I'm going to have to disagree with that. The majority are people Grinding the Arena for those Units.

I'll drop a hundred rounds in arena daily. 500 fights spread across 28 days is not much to me.

Procrastination will make it feel grindy. Git er dun.

    Especially with BF/CM coming up.

And what if we already grinded nonstop on the months before to reach the goal? And now are burned out? 500 fights seems grindy for those that mainly only have time to play on the weekends

People can play as much as they want. That doesn't mean they are owed the same amount of Rewards that others get for playing more. That much is logical. More time invested means more Rewards.

I was disputing the comment that it's a small portion of the community. We don't have the information to say either way, but I'd venture that the larger portion of the community run Arenas for Units, and the smaller portion are Grinding to Rank.

"I'd venture that the larger portion of the community run Arenas for Units, and the smaller portion are Grinding to Rank" this part i can agree for sure.
i think its safe to say kabam has those numbers tho. Of actual active players uncollected and above that sign in at least once a week. but i think its also safe to say a huge number of people dont have the time to run arena just for units that they might not even need while still needing to run other content. especially cav-TB, tend to run monthly and side content for shards and rank up material, while unit grinders is a higher form of investment time wise. i wouldnt find it logical to say there are more unit grinders than over all regular content players.
