Honestly don’t see much he can do that doom can’t other then specifically power steal immunity, why would I use tech doom?
Obviously it's early to say, and this is assuming his damage holds up. But I can see a few reasons to use IDoom. As a disclaimer already, we all know how strong normal Doom is, I'm not going to make an argument for IDoom being better overall but if you start to compare any new champ to OG Doom then you're already setting up for disappointment. I see why you compare them though, because they have similar mechanics and playstyles.
Having said that, I feel that Kabam have gone a good route in designing IDoom as a more specific counter sort of champion, whereas Doom is an all-rounder. So that makes IDoom already have a few advantages over OG Doom purely because he's not trying to beat one of the best champions in the game at their own... er... game.
IDoom is a Mutant counter: His abilities work in his favour for mutant match ups that Doom doesn't do too well against champions like Bishop, Havok, Kitty, Sauron and Sinister. IDoom seems to be built to counter mutants, and especially some that OG Doom simply cannot handle:
- Bishop: IDoom seems to have handpicked abilities to counter him. Decrease energy resistance to overcome Bishop's strong base resistance. Can block his unblockable specials in the case Bishop has them. Incinerate immune. Cowardice to reduce special damage. Removes prowess. His playstyle involves not letting opponent use any specials in the first place. Doom on the other hand triggers Bishop's overload really easily and takes tons of damage. - Kitty: IDoom inflicts cowardice on heavy attacks he can weave from a combo, removing any challenge from kitty. Also doesn't crit, so won't trigger prowess there either. Doom triggers a passive stun, causing kitty to gain extra prowess. Kitty is also immune to incinerate, whereas IDoom does damage through power burns - Havok: IDoom will reduce energy resistance when Havok uses specials, he will also be immune to detonate due to armour up. Doom doesn't work too well against Havok due to taking detonate damage, and no incinerate. - Sauron: He is straight up immune to power steal, so IDoom has the advantage with his burn instead of OG's steal. IDoom can block unblockable attacks while the aura is up, so that's good to counter Sauron's unblockable. No need to worry about the regen since it's based on hit damage, and all of IDoom's damage is red numbers. - Sinister: IDoom can chain specials from his heavy attacks, so no need to worry about Sinister blocking unblockable specials. He is also immune to the shock he could get reflected by Sinister's SP1, unlike Doom with his incinerates from Sp2. Not to mention, most of IDoom's damage is red burst numbers, so that can't be reflected, and he doesn't crit so no regen from Sinister.
IDoom will also:
- Handle non-crit nodes better like spiked armour, or champs that punish crits like Mr Sinister, - provide double the DOT immunities that Doom has at the moment, incinerate as well as shock, so something else to set him apart. - Handle fights that mess with power or specials a little better, IDoom doesn't need specials to control power either, you can use heavy attacks to trigger his aura, whereas OG needs specials. Slight difference that is sometimes a pro sometimes a con, same with Doom. - provide a bonus from his special lock, a piece of utility Doom doesn't have. This makes pushing opponent to 3 bars of power easier to handle, we all know that moment where using OG Doom and the opponent uses a special when we don't want them to. - Counter Storm X and similar future mutants better, Doom glances a lot and can't switch off her tempest with steal. IDoom with his power burn will, which sets him up as an even better mutant counter in future for Mutant defenders that come out susceptible to the tech staple power burn.
Overall, I don't think the question is "why would I use IDoom instead of Doom?" It's "Why should I use IDoom as well as Doom?"
These two champions complement each other very well, where Doom controls power with steal, IDoom has burn. Where Doom provides a general use on a path in a quest, IDoom is there for the more specific fight that Doom has trouble with. Doom even provides a helping hand when IDoom comes up against his class advantage of Cosmic opponents - which OG Doom will inevitably crush.
We also tend to have path identities nowadays, so instead of needing one power control champ, one evade counter, one miss counter and one immunity champs, we have all those aspects split out into their own paths. So, for the entire power control path it's good to have both Doom's for the different sort of fights they can both handle. A path with a Bishop, Annihulus, Havok and The Champion is going to be the exact sort of place Doom X2 will shine.
They work so well as a duo that you're rarely using them for the same thing - which I think is only going to prove itself more and more over time.
I have to say, I’m very impressed with what I’ve seen from him thus far. The Tech class has always had an element of Power Control to it (Doc Oc, Warlock, Peni, Punisher 2099, the Visions) but IDoom feels like he might quickly become the quintessential Tech Power Controller. Power burning off of basic attacks after heavies and SP1 is a very powerful ability, and I’m fairly certain will be potent enough to keep you alive until your SP3. Once at your SP3 I think the power denial will be immense. The guaranteed power burn on mediums is super important as well
I think a key part of his kit that is being overlooked is that Special Lock. IDoom has the disadvantage of losing his aura when punishing the opponents special except on the SP3. But we can also apply this to his SP1 as the opponent won’t be able to use a special for you to punish during its duration. And after the SP3, you can use the SP2 to lock the opponents special for a good 20 seconds, allowing you to guarantee they won’t waste their power before you launch your SP2 nuke:
Now, I’m assuming this special lock would deactivate if you used another SP3 otherwise we could potentially have infinite special lock on our hands.
Obviously he has a significant amount of downsides, all based around the cosmic class. I think that’s fine, and is easily covered by regular doom in those matchups. It feels appropriate. The one thing I am worried about is Power Gain. Specifically, IDoom’s lack of it. Doom is amazing because he’s able to continually access his power control through gaining his own power. IDoom will require a manual buildup to the SP1 and SP3, which I worry might be too long.
However, even if his power control turns out to just be ok, I think we have a lot of other amazing pieces of utility to use him for. Non-crit, prowess removal and cowardice, turning off unblockable, Shock and Incinerate immunity. Plus something I don’t think a lot of people clocked: Non-Contact mediums. You know how people like Havok’s mediums to avoid Thorns, Electro etc? Yeah, IDoom has that exact same ability. Because he obviously needed more
That’s not even accounting for smaller, nicher pieces of utility like access to shock, an armour up and unblockable specials, which all have matchups where they’re useful. We can even chuck on the War Machine and White Mags prefights for passive stun, massive energy resist and purify. Because why not?
There also a line in abilities that I’m very interested in: “Each time he inflicts one of his personal shock effects, it is immediately replaced by an instant Energy Power Burn that burns a percentage of the opponent’s current power based on the potency of the replaced shock”
So is the power burn scaling with the shock damage? If so, damage modifiers are going to make that absolutely stupid in something like Act 7. Even the recoil masters (which he’ll thankfully be able to handle) could have a big impact here. Maybe it’s just the wording screwing with me but this seems…potentially insane

Boring.. just another Doom with almost the same animations but diferent abilities.
I dig Titania tough
And Titania's that much different than She-Hulk?
Yes, or Titania has changed her name to Jennifer Walters now?
Cause as far as i know that still Victor Von Doom, just a diferent armor
So your saying you have no interest in a Dr doom that is enhanced with stark tech? Lemme guess you don't like stark spiderman either?
Yes and Yes. Why have 4 versions of Peter Parker ffs? Im good with Miles, Spidergwen and S99 tough cause they re diferent characters. But Spiderman classic, Sparky, Stealthy and Symbiote seems like an easy work to sell instead of build a new unique champ from scratch
Out of many super popular champs, i hate it when we get diferent versions of the same champ, specially when some are literly copy and paste like Cap Marvel and Ironman.
I knew i would get lots of disagree on this, but imo we should have just 1 version of each character, and maybe just give the option to change suit like most games do, but instead they do make slight ajustments and sell us more of the same, that annoys me

Good thing your wrong then huh? Because they make completely new abilities for each new version of an "existing champ".

All of those champions were made in the first year of the game.
Each time a new champion is made even if they’re a repeat character, they will have new abilities.
Or are you implying that another version of Captain marvel or Captain America would have the same abilities as the 2015 champ?

Even then he's still wrong. Oh spidey and symbiote spidey are very different. Both caps are different. Granted the iron men and marvels are identical but they were also day 1 champs.

@BitterSteel@Buttehrs I guess you didnt read my FIRST comment and completely missed the point.. i never said they had the same abilities, even tough they are very similar, i said they have the same animations

You also said this, and 3 of those 4 champions have different animations and abilities. So I’m still not sure what point you’re making overall.
The point is we are missing many popular champs like Pyro, Mystique, Jessica Jones, Zemo, Bullseye, Kate Bishop, Bullseye, The Lizard, Sandman, Adam Warlock, Morbius, Surtur, Beta Ray Bill, Shuri.. etc and yet we keep getting multiple versions of the same heroes.
But yes i see that u and many others disagree with that, and thats fine, we are getting nowhere here lol
Just thought maybe somebody else would be bothered by this as well

And yet you just named 2 or 3 characters that would be duplicates of what we have already in beta ray bill and Kate bishop and even shuri to an extent. So who's the hypocrite here? Exactly. Move along lol.

My god, u dont seem to understand that same character does not mean someone else with similar skillset.
I even enlisted that Spidergwen, Miles and Miguel (S99) are diferent characters, even though they re also Spiderman. Thats why i mentioned only the other 4 Spidermans that ALL OF THEM ARE PETER PARKER.
