Anyone else just going to completely ignore relics?

They look too complicated. I don't need another thing to never dupe and then have to grind for resources to rank up. I will never use relics if I am not forced to in this game. I'm just not excited about them at all considering all the issues this game has currently.

They also pick and choose what abilities and functions that benefit us get messed up by our using AAR and they have chosen to make strikers be of limited to no use previously with AAR so I doubt they will allow it to work with the relics either.
Actually, a better analogy is synergies. I will bet that 90% of the players of the game ignore synergies either mostly or completely. Synergies are a complex feature of the game. There's no such thing as the best synergies you can just always use, because using synergy teams is a trade off between adding synergy champs to your team or using other potentially more directly useful champs on your team. To the extent that people use synergy teams at all, most just do what someone else tells them to do. Probably less than 1% of the players of the game sit down and study synergies and try to optimize them in their day to day gameplay.
Relics will probably be something like that. They will be there, and people will use them, but most won't think about them deeply. They will just get them when they get them, and use them when they have them, and whatever benefits they get, they get. The rest is for the people who actually want to theory-craft around them.
Perhaps it will also have an adverse impact on new champion designs
That was a terrible analogy. Synergies are one of the most well-thought, interesting and useful parts of the game. They reward deep knowledge of the game mechanics and champion abilities and are huge problem-solvers, especially as you progress in the game and you start facing more complex nodes.
Relics are a pay-to-win mechanic that is mostly designed to give players the edge on PvP competitive game modes, like War or Battlegrounds.
Nothing alike.
Ultimately, however, I am curious to see how they work. I do think they can bring something interesting to the game. I'm just on the fence about how it'll work in PvP. In Battlegrounds, you can just look at whichever champion you're facing and draft a good counter. If we add relics to that, I fear that it'll make it increasingly complex. Increasing complexity isn't inherently a bad thing, but I don't need it when I'm already on a short timer.
It'll depend on how they are designed, I guess. If they just make bleeds deal more damage or regen heal more health, then that's one thing. However, those are not very enticing abilities. I worry a bit that we'll eventually see "this champion gets this kind of new immunity", which has the potential to really screw you over (as the opponent) if you don't catch it in time.
But we'll see, I guess.
I have no objection to them being brought in, it’s just so much more extra info we need to keep in mind to get optimal out from our champs. Having to look at the node, look at the synergy, look at the interaction with the relic. In reality I can switch my brain off and just Herc through 90% of content. All the competitive stuff like AW and BG where this would be the real difference maker, I’ll just care less and less about.
I’ve been ignoring most of the new content. I don’t play variants, incursions, or battlegrounds, it’s just not fun for me.
