    Because an embarrassing amount of people would load up thousands of units onto an alternate account and gift their main a butt load of GGC’s. Then they would refund the money or it would be from a stolen card, so their alt would get banned but by that time who cares cause their main got the GGC’s.

    Earlier this year, they said you will no longer be able to gift these crystals.

    You would only be able to gift “consumables” (items like potions, boosts, mastery cores, etc)

    The change was announced several months ago. I believe the primary reasons were based on fraud (people using stolen credit cards to sell ggc at discounted price) with scammers as an additional reason.
